Hello all,
One of my next projects is to provide a more full form of redundancy for our chartplotter (AXIOM PRO) and also, just because I want to do this!
So, ordered an NMEA and SEATALK wifi multiplexer and the aim is to have the following:
1. ST60 instruments go to the WIFI multiplexer via SEATALK.
2. Raymarine AIS 650 AIS data to multiplexer via NMEA 0183.
Now, currently the GPS position is all provided to the network via the AXIOM PRO MFD GPS antenna (to the S3 course computer, VHF radio (NMEA).
Now, this is all well and good but as I going to be doing some wiring can I not use one of the Raymarine AIS650 NMEA outputs to send the GPS signal from the dedicated GPS antenna for this device? So the AIS 650 would send the AIS data and GPS data to the multiplxer via NMEA outputs?
Been looking at the Raymarine manual for the AIS650 and it says you should not send the GPS data via NMEA (but it can be done for testing purposes as stated in the manual) but surely if the data is being sent only then it should not make any issues?
Thanks
DTD
