The Chartplotter on the boat I have just purchased thinks I am in Nigeria instead of Lymington! Is there a reset button on them? This has not been used in a year so not sure what has gone on there. There is a separate radar and all the other isntruments work fine.

Have you got a card in it? and a gps talking to it? if not it will open every time just off the east african coast, use the track pad to move the cursor to were you are.

I have pressed clear and then the power button to restart it, however everytime I end up in the Bay of New Guinie

You mean at 0 N, 0 W perhaps? Guess the GPS isn't working, or you're not leaving it enough time to find the satellites and download the almanacs (which it will have to do if its been unused for a while).

Probably the internal battery is either not charged or has failed. The battery is crimped in to a holder. Mine was a standard CR type. You have to very carefully remove the old battery and replace in a holder available from most electronic stores. The new holder will have wires to solder to the original connections. Do not try soldering the new battery to the original holder as it could explode or will be ruined by the heat.

How long do you leave it on before giving up, as Rick says it can take quite a while to sort it self out if it has not been turned on for a while.
