Rate your toilet!

Well thanks to the forum I've found out I can rebuild my Raritan Compact toilet - but the parts I need come to nearly £100, and it will still look a bit tired.

There are quite a few manual flush units available new at that price - but which is best? So far I've googled sub-£100 units from XM, SeamarkNunn, Jabsco and Lazilas... but have I missed any, and which is the best buy? Or maybe I should rebuild the Raritan?

Any recommendations for budget heads?

My old Jabsco works a treat. A service kit does cost half the price of a new loo but you don't need it very often - well I suppose that depends on usage. Other views will follow shortly.

Had a jabsco on board from new - 4 years. I replaced the seals last year at a cost of 24 quid for the kit. 5000 miles of satisfactory service and we do put biodegradeable paper through the loo.
Also banged all the limescale deposits out too, no issue.
No bung ups during its entire service life.

IIRC it is the best rated amongst the LIveaboards.

Lavac is the king. Mine is 35years old with original pump. Replaced seal in seat this year & made new seals for pump (no longer made, & new design is slightly different) It is simple, seldom fails & is easy to fix if it does fail.

Votes go for Jabsco and the Lavac. Used on two seperate boats.

Another vote for Lavac. The most reliable marine toilet I have ever used.

Jabsco at about £90 if you want the same style. Lavac at about £140 if you appreciate the superior operating method and simplicity. I have both but prefer the simplicity of Lavac.

My Simpson Lawrence does me fine. It's early days though - it was only installed in 1964. We'll have to see whether it will stand up to sustained service.

Fixed a Raritan 2 or 3 times then swapped it for a Lavac, virtually nothing to go wrong.

I've got a Raritan PH II on board which has been lightly used since it was installed six months ago and either the flapper valve or joker valve is already having issues, don't know which because it isn't my favorite thing to be fixing yet. Hope that helps you decide not to rebuild your Raritan.

Lavac. I had problems to start with but it has been fine for the last 3 years. Had a baby blake before that that needed an overhaul. Saved money by buying the lavac !!
