Seems to work fine

http://www.raspbmc.com/

Just downloaded the standalone image and it worked first time. Didn't seem to want to see a usb hard drive, but that might be to do with some weird formatting of the drive. Pendrive OK. Into a samsung sa300 monitor , sound straight out of the Pi 3.5mm into radio aux socket. Sounds and looks fine. Pulling 400mA.

Raspberry Pi? Bulky, expensive, clumsy things! Have you seen this

That stick thing is not a media centre, raspbmc is.
Especially if you have an older TV (which I do) the Pi allows to watch internet content on tv.
And with a big drive you can watch video too.

So far I only found one thing that is wrong with it and that is that I can only play individual songs, it stopped playing "albums"...

It certainly can be. It has HDMI output and I have used it for exactly that.

Enable sound over HDMI and you can avoid the audio cable.

Not poss in this case, it's a VGA monitor through a HDMI adaptor. WHich cost quite a bit more than the Pi

Bit does sound great through the aux in on the radio system, at the cost of another 0.5A.

Can the Raspberry Pi provide enough current to spin up the hard disk?
