Ran away from Golden Arrow Marine engine service..

On my brand new Honda I will service it myself barring doing the tappett adjustments.

Oil specified in honda is actually obselete so I use ASDA synthetic oil which is 2 ASI levels above that recommend.

Oil filter is an Accord one from Halfords, plugs fuel filters and impeller will be genuine Honda spares.

Oil and filter changes plus religious flushing with fresh water will cover 99% of the longevity of the engine.

Honda state that you have to be "competent" to service the engine. they will cover for 6 years on a non declining basis. I.e. if the ECU fails at 5 years and 364 days they will fix it!

The warranty was a key reason for selecting the engine, loads of online discussions on honouring of warranty claims. I deliberately avoided a certain Japanese brand as they appear to avoid any liability as a friend of mine has discovered.

If your engine is In warranty period you must use genuine parts to honour the warranty, as far as I'm aware using aftermarket parts will invalidate any warranty .

Good on you Sir!!. If you put marine at the end of a part, invariably the price doubles.
£90 a dealer charges to service a 2.3 honda. This includes 250ml engine oil, 60ml gear oil and a plug. Tappets should also be adjusted but having to remove the powerhead to adjust correctly on the 2.3 model I would be very surprised if this is carried out.

Used Golden arrow (Portsmouth) for a repair and warranty work and although they had problems it was more down to Volvo authorisation on the warranty works. Mark at Portsmouth was brilliant in keeping me informed with what was happening although Volvo were very frustrating. Have used the Poole dept for work on my QL trim tabs. They did what they said they would and charged what they said they would so no complaints here either.

How did you get on with BHG?

BHG engineer was excellent.. He inspected everything and didn't replace anything that didn't need to be replaced.. In the end all that was done was the engine and gearbox oils changed.. At 60h of run time that's what I would expect.. Waiting for the invoice to arrive in the post to see what the final charge is..
