Going over in June for first time. Looked at the chart and there seems to be a number of possible routes somewhat complicated by the TSS. Does anyone have a favourite they'd like to share?

Chart is on the boat, but from memory - catch the whole southerly going tide, and then go up the Dunkerque channel - crossing the sandbank as weather allows.

PM me and I will send you the waypoints I used last year, they worked a treat on a south going tide. You will need to plot them on your up dated charts to be sure they are still current.

We leave on the flood with the right timing to arrive near the Sandettie light around HW, then turn left a bit and carry a component of the ebb to arrive at the inshore channel off W.Dunkerque, than scoot along the edge of it to E.Dunkerque entrance.
Distance through the water is usually exactly the same as going in a straight line across all the banks, some of which (e.g. the Falls) can be bumpy.
Stay well clear of the N.Goodwin Head!!!!!

Goodwin Knoll
South Falls

Time it so you have an east going tide on arrival.

But why Dunkerque? There is nothing there. Graveline is much nicer, allthough tidal, and Nieuwpoort is a bit further, but much more accessible.

Thanks to all those who responded (especially Mal).
Dunkerque because we are cruising in company. Many of the others are, indeed, going to Gravelines but we didn't fancy drying out into the (allegedly) soft mud. So we are going to Dunkerque to await the arrival of the rest of the group.

Be assured it is very soft mud. There's still plenty of water in the basin at LW and frankly you might not even notice if the keel is in the mud. Don't miss Gravelines because of it!

It is indeed very soft mud. But when you have a keel like this:

Things can go a bit wrong. I think we must have hit a rock or something, but at low tide, the boat was tilted up at about 45 degrees. Made an interesting sight!
