There was a brief article in one of the mags. (ST I think) around christmas time that the harbour authorities planned to dredge the harbour entrance and visitors pontoons over winter.

Does anyone have an update on whether the work has been done

I dare say you've seen the Port's site and this comment;

"Because repairs are scheduled to take place to the Eastern Marina Breakwater at the Ramsgate Royal Harbour Marina, there will be a reduction in berth capacity in both the east and west marina's until mid May 2010.

In conjunction with the repairs to the breakwater there will also be a dredging operation within the vicinity.

We recommend that you please e-mail or telephone before arriving to confirm availability."

Hmmm that isn't too informative, is it? "In the vicinity of..."
I shall try to ascertain the whole truth. I know someone.....;)
Apart from the ECP angle I have a personal interest as my club (Hollowshore) is scheduled there on a club visit at the end of May, along with (I believe) the fine folk from Hoo Ness YC.

Thanks chaps- actually Dick since HNYC is in the same position as you , Tony L. was going to contact you next.

We'll monitor from here as others will be interested I'm sure

I was there yesterday bringing a Halberg Rassy back to the Medway with a friend. We left at low water and were aground in our berth and ploughed our way out to the fuel pontoon. Boat draws 1.6m.

The entrance channel is fine but when you turn down the pontoons for the visitor spaces I estimate 1.5m at best LWS.

The guy on the fuel pontoon said it was being dredged again in a two weeks time. The missing finger pontoons are being refurbished with the green plastic gear with additional cleats etc, to be reinstated shortly.

There's less than 1.5m in some areas, the further you go in towards the wall.
Anyway, the plan is that it will all be dredged before the end of May. During that time there will be restrictions on berths. Intention is to get it back to 2.5m - it was originally 3.0m.
It's interesting to note that when the Royal Harbour was built, there were silting problems right from the start. The inner harbour sits behind a cross-wall and this was built to solve the problem back in the 1800's - the wall has sluices in it (they can still be seen) and the idea was to fill the inner up at HW, wait for LW and then open the sluices.
I expect it was effective then, but not really practical now!

There is a "new" acting Harbour Master (He's been in the role since last summer) who is planning to continue the ongoing maintenance dredging. The dredging carried out last summer was mostly if not entirely paid for by the wind farm. As London Array wind farm will be using Ramsgate as a base the Royal Harbour will be busier. Hopefully the council will use the increased revenue on the port and marina rather than wasting money elsewhere.

AH!... thanks for that.... I've seen them and often wondered what they were for... your info makes sense of it all!

Left yesterday less than 1M at Low water 3 days off springs stuck at the entrance to F pontoons as said dredging due to start shortly.:(

Looks promising:

Looks like fun & games then this Bank Holiday weekend with the added interest of the Little Ships fleet returning.

Hopefully booked berths will be available for our rally :(

They seem to be dredging where the finger pontoons have been removed. Don't know how long it will takes, and then they will have to get the fingers back which presumably takes a few days. Suppose people could always raft up for the weekend so long as the dredger isn't running up it.

As you say, bank holiday weekend could be interesting.

Dont surpose it occurred to anyone to do this over the winter?
