Ramgate boat about to go to tender..

A bit quick off the mark aren't they, havent paid the bill for 6 months, doesn't mean that it is abandoned, what if these people are on a long holiday, or working out of the country for 6 months, and havn't recieved a bill, because the postie has posted to wrong address. if it has been lying there for a year or two then maybe then abandoned, maybe ramsgate is needing money fast..

I could not agree more. When I moved it took seven attempts to get them to update my address, part way through the process they were sending me berthing bills to my real address but newsletters (with handy opening hours) to the old one.

I recently sold the boat but the harbour master has impounded it; after the sale I must add, on the basis that I owe them £3000 in berthing fees. When I pointed out that that is more that the boat has been kept in Ramsgate for he reviewed it to £2500 then again to £2000. By my reckoning I actually owe about £850 and have bank statements to prove it, but they refuse to accept them as being relevant! In his own words his staff have spent a considerable amount of time making sure the figures are right and they are not about to accept anything that proves them wrong. Despite all this time-spent, they still got my name wrong in a recent letter.

The moral of these two stories - keep your boat in Ramsgate at your peril. Do not go away or move as they will impound and sell your boat!
