Radio Checks .. Policing by ridicule

I did one yesterday after fitting a new radio, software glitch on last one, replaced without quibble by navman by the way!

At 1330 on 1 watt I called the CG, the first local traffic in over 20 minutes, quick check and it was done.

Sorry.

we are registered with the telephone preference service, and are ex-directory. This has reduced the crap to an absolute trickle.

Same here.

Well I've almost never done one...

I'll admit to two or three times. Usually when we have bought a new radio, a new boat, or I've changed the antenna on the top of the mast. For example, last season, the mast was down, I'd installed a new antenna, cable, gland, and a new DSC radio. On completion I did call Brixham CG and still felt guilty enough to say thank you and explain that it was a new installation that I was checking.... Actually Brixham CG is quite a good check for us as when you are up the Tamar, the signal is marginal.

On a slightly different note, we would check with our 'sailing cruise in company companions' on DSC - if we could get the bl**dy thing to work!
