Lord help us..... for the Solent infection has spread...... we are hearing more and more radio checks this season...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.... STOP BEING MORONS.... AND FOR CHRISTS SAKE USE YOUR BRAINS.... YOU DO NOT.... I REPEAT.... YOU DO NOT... NEED TO CHECK YOUR RADIO 30 SECONDS AFTER YOU'VE USED IT TO REQUEST A LOCK OUT...AND IF IT WORKED LAST WEEKEND, IT WILL MOST LIKELY BE WORKING THIS WEEKEND... YOU PLONKERS.

pass the message on with my love...

Me Sir, I did one this year, as I was checking out the new Emergency VHF antenna and splitter.

No excuse, and I promise not to do it again on pain of 6 strokes with a whip antenna.

Oh so true! I remember it being a luxury to have a radio- now it's a torment. I often turn the damned thing off as I'm sick and tired of not only radio checks, but hearing how the dogfish/dabs/mullett/skate are so few/so many- yada yada yada.

I did once a year when I first had a boat but then I stopped bothering. If one day I suspect that all might not be well then I shall.

"Tinkles. Tinkles this is Sabre offering a you a drinkie"
No reply
Hmm "Thames Coastguard radio check please"

The radio check I did after installing the set was to call up Maas VTS to ask permission to cross the estuary. Glad it worked! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I know, it drives me mad. Trouble is they keep doing it. For a laugh we've started writing down boat names. Current leader is ********* who's asked for three checks (to our knowledge) since March when we started.

Mind you, the CG keep obliging when they could reply with an affirmative and 'suggest you check again sir in 12 months..." /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Is it something they teach on Solent sailing courses?
Did a course out of Swansea with a pleasant enough chap from the Solent. He had two problems, spent all day wondering where all the other boats were and why we did not bother with radio check.
Also a bit phased by the size of the tide

Not a problem we have round here thank goodness, only time I've heard a check on VHF was a few weeks back when someone had just installed a new rig and called a mate to check it. Other than that there's nothing much to show it's even working
Speed of tide is something SimpleSimon commented on as he reckons it's a hell of a rate compared to further South

Got mine checked coming out of SHOTLEY .. Must remember to pick a channel other than 16 for a quick thank you .. Thames Coast Guard was listening .. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
