Radio Check by DSC test call?

I just fitted a new VHF set (SH GX1800GPS) and, reading through the Owner's Manual (not to be undertaken casually!) I discovered it has the capacity to send and respond automatically to a DSC test call. The manual mentions only calls to another vessel with a test-call-capable set.
Do UK coastguard radios have the capacity to respond to a Test Call? That could save a voice Radio Check. Or should I ask around if a nearby boater has a test-call-capable radio?

Yes

Yes and no. It tests the ability to transmit and receive DSC. It doesn't test your speaker or microphone. Horses for courses?

I'd expect pretty much all fixed DSC sets have rthe capabilities.

Yes, although older DSC sets did not have this self check facility.

A voice transmission is VERY different to a DSC message.

The bit of the radio I would like to work if I need it is the DSC red button which needs no voice, has a greater range than voice and, after I have mastered the menu, gives details of who, where, and what the problem is. I have, however, had to voice call Belfast to tell them I have sent a DSC test with no reply so I am not sure what they have to do for a response.
