Radar with or without MARPA?

We have Raymarine MARPA and use the ordinary fluxgate autopilot heading information. It works fine. I must say that I find the MARPA an excellent safety aid. If your budget can stretch that far I would make every effort to get it.

Well so did I, but I've recently added the Smart Heading Sensor (gyro). I found that although MARPA would 'lock on' to a target, its heading vectors were all over the place, and not reliable.

for all the input. I think we will bite the bullet and go for the full MARPA system, with the gyro compass. I don't have an autopilot other than a Tillerpilot, so unfortunately that's not an option anyway. You only buy once (we hope) so buy the best!
