Radar reflector for small vessel ?

I found tight under the spreader secured against the shroud worked on a smallish boat. That was for the original Firdel reflector before they brought out the significantly smaller "Blipper" that now graces the forward face of many a mast. The original instruction was to mount it as far from the mast as possible to reduce the shadow thrown by the mast.

I think Echomax make a bottom mounted reflector that could be mounted on the cabin top or similar surface.

Big ships will no doubt have both.
Small boats might have neither.

Just downloaded the new equipment list for Belgian registered private (ie not commercial) pleasure boats more than 2.5m and under 24m in length, a radar reflector is now mandatory.

Yesterday we were getting some lessons on the lock gates on the canals in Belgium and on the way back came across a friend in his boat, now his boat is the same make as mine but a smaller model he has a Placom 500 and I have the Placom 750, not a big boat but it dwarfed his little 500, when we chatted today he said not to run him over
I spotted him a long way off with the Mk1 eyeball but if the weather had been a bit inclement then his boat would be difficult to see, I had enough time to set up my camera and video his passing...
