Radar cable through deck

I launched my Anderson 22 this week, mast up, so I can now wire in the cable from a newly installed JRC radar scanner etc. Running it through the hatch, all is fine & works OK. But the problem is how to take the cable permantly through the deck. I assumed undo the plug, get an Index cable gland device to go through the hull etc. But the plug doesn't seem to want to come off easily. The man at Mailspeed in Burnham said no, leave the plug on, take through deck, and hide the extra 10m or so of cable that is spare. This means drilling a 30mm or so hole through the deck and trying to lose 10m of thick radar cable in a very small area.

Does the plug come off, and (even more important) how easy is it to re-attach?

Dont take plug off. Use a cable gland big enough to take the plug if you can, the alternative is cut the cable. Make sure the joint is in a dry place below decks and for addeed measure put in a shielded waterproof box. (The RS catalogue has one for about a tenner delivered.)

Definitely agree with bobbobbin. Get the correct gland from somwhere like Index Marine. They do versions that have a 'split' insert to feed round the cable. Great bits of kit.

If possible get a stainless Goose Neck made,Big enougth to pass the plug, easily sealed, any fabricator should be able to make one.

Take 2inch hole cutter and end up with a disc of 1/4 inch ply. Cut the disc in half and the enlarge the central hole so that it is a neat fit around the cable. Countersink the back of the hole and drill four holes for holding down screws. Assemble the disc with waterproof glue and use good silicone sealant in the underside recess and under the whole disc.
Used them for years without problems and you can scale the design for all sorts of cables.
Cheap,inconspicuous and effective.

Thanks for all the advice, think I'll go with the first suggestion, particularly as it allows me to cut and get rid of surplus cable.

Sat in the small cabin freezing yesterday scratching my head, knew there had to be an answer. This forum is so good for this sort of thing!

Thanks again
