Hi,

I'm trying to source a new filter set, I had in mind a Racor filters 75/b32016- 10, which is a twin filter set with a change over handle, so that either filter can be selected or both can be used in parallel. It's rated at 40 gallons per hour, which is way more than I need but it seems to be the smallest in the range.

ASAP are out of stock and the Yard say that they have been told it'll be the end of March or early April before they can get a set. That's really too late I hope to be sailing by then.

Any ideas of how else might supply them in the uk and more importantly might have stock? I've done a quick Google search, but don't see any obvious alternative suppliers.

Any ideas about an alternative dual filter set with a change over valve?

Why not go for the 75/B32009M-10, which is in stock and only a tenner more? If size is a problem you could presumably use smaller filter elements.

Another thought - are You sure this has changeover valve? Better make sure, quote: "CAUTION! Servicing filters is not possible while engine is running" ...
There are filters which switch from dirty one to another and may be replaced while engine is running, actually.
My favourite idea is two filters in line with bypass, but haven't found such set on market. Got to visit some tractor junkyard, or maybe make one.

It probably has a changeover valve, but only on one side (before the filters or after the filters). If you took one of the filters off such a system while the engine was running, it would suck in air. You'd have to run on the backup filter until out of danger, then shut down while changing the old one.

For Kindred Spirit I made a manifold with valves on both sides, so could have replaced a filter with the engine running. In theory, anyway - in practice I'd have wanted to be tied up somewhere calm before dangling upside down into the space where they were mounted :)

Thanks for prompt replies.

I hadn't through of putting smaller elements in the 75/B32009M-10, I'll phone ASAP tomorrow and find out if that is possible, I'd assumed some sort of central bolt like the filters I'm use to. I'd been put off by the much larger throughput 277L/hr as opposed to the 75L/hr of the smaller unit, the taller filter size and the thought of having to buy bigger filters than I need for years to come.

I seems that the valve switches the outlet, the inlet remains open, so you can't change the filter without ether isolating the tank of switching off the pump (engine).

I'll get the Yard to try the Parker Store in Southampton (the boat is in the Hamble although I'm up near Aberdeen), the Parker Store in Southampton is Hyphose and they don't list the 75/b32016- 10 in the online store, but as I say I'll get the yard to ask tomorrow.

Once again thank for the input.

I phoned ASAP supplies today, they have an equivalent in stock, the only difference being a metal bowl instead of a glass one, part number Raco 75/B32016M-10 dual filter, a bit more expensive, but hey that's life these days.
Problem solved.
Thanks to every one for their help.
