I saw an article last year reference, cruiser racing without having to strip your boat down to the last ounce of superfluous equipment, can anyone please forward info on this topic.

Very simple, concentrate on how to get the best from your sails and sailing it to best advantage and don't worry about the gear you carry. Sail shape and set has got to be top of the priority list so make sure you can alter shape to suit the conditions.
