I don't have much experience sailing with the modern YM or DS.
I used to sail with quite a few of the old YM sailors back I the early to mid 80's.
I found I respected the YM. Some were better than others. The problem I found some would have. Was often converting class room to real world. I was much younger than most of them at the time. They usually started telling me how to do something. No problem, I just listened politely. After a little while they noticed I knew how to do a few things. A little while longer they would ask me. Why I did something different. I would tell them.
If I sail with someone on his or her boat I don't tell them how to sail it. I do what they ask me to do.
If someone comes sailing with me, I explain what I am doing, if they want to help good. if not up to them.
Any level of experience is fine with me.
Above all I know I do not know everything. Sometimes I learn something new from a relatively inexperienced new crew.
I am also quite happy to let people learn by making mistakes, So long as they are not going to result in damage or injury.
I find if I want someone to listen to me. I start by listening to them. They usually get stuck listening to me after.
