I know the terms quiet spot and the Solent don't always go together and probably even more so now everyone is staying on the south coast but I'm looking for some suggested locations within around 20 miles of Lymington.

We love Newtown and I'm hoping there maybe more similar quiet spots to pick up a buoy in a 20 mile radius.

So can anyone recommend other quiet sheltered places to pick up a buoy?

Thanks

Off Keyhaven and behind Hurst Castle. Hurst Castle is great to tour and good value for money. The Bay off Osborne house. No location apart from Newtown river offers 360 protection that i am aware of. Beaulieu river Buoys for 360 but i am trying to think of anchoring for free.

Thanks, I'm not worried about it being free, paying for a nice quiet safe night seems to be the cheapest thing associated with owning a boat...………….

20 miles across open water just gets you to Poole Harbour, Swanage and Studland. The quite bit might ba a tall ask in good weather though!!!

The entire Solent is sheltered from swell, so the only waves will be from the currently blowing wind. The bottom everywhere is mud or sand, no rock that I know of. So in good weather you can examine the chart to find anywhere with a flattish bottom (you don’t want to try to stick the hook into an underwater cliff-face) at a suitable depth under the lee of the land, and there you go. No need to follow the crowds to a “known” spot.

It's a Phantom 43, main reason for something reasonably well sheltered is getting our Lab ashore in the dinghy.

I go into Keyhaven alot, plenty of depth but the depth is very narrow. I would think your boat too big.

What about dropping the hook near the entrance to Hawkers Lake and heading in there in the dinghy?

I don't have charts in front of me, is Hawkers Lake off Keyhaven?

How far off shore do you need to be to stay afloat? I seem to think that areas dries out a lot.

Is there any hidden gems in Poole Harbour? Any time I've been there it's always seemed very busy but I've headed to a marina not a quiet anchorage.

There's two entrances to get up to Keyhaven to the actual quay. Hawkers lake is the northern most one. Quite obvious on google maps
