I made a post couple of months ago saying the new (then) issue of MBY was good, and I think the new (Dec08) issue is good too. Anyone else feeling the same way? A few quick thoughts:
1. Very nice article on the Tuscan Islands. Fabulous crusing ground. Looking back over the other similar articles (Corsica, frexample) the mag has covered some nice places this year
2. V interesting article showing innards of Earthrace boat
3. Good Custom Yacht bit, except for MS (qv). I still think they should stop quoting superyacht prices "incl UK VAT". No-one in the history of the world has paid UK VAT on one of these, or ever will.
4. Two good/interesting boat tests, plus several other shorter reviews
5. Still too nice to lousy boats. I went on the new Aicon 58 and posted pics on here mid September. It is generally praised on p20, yet it's a terrible boat, one of the worst 58 foot designs in recent times
6. Nice tribute (though irritatingly too name droppy) to Messrs Tremlett, Aoki and Fletcher on p37
7. Interesting thing on Pearl, on p 122.
8. Fab RIB p42.
9. A picture of my actual new boat, centre of shot, p9 (no, not the beached one in the Bahamas!)
10. Generally, not enough totty
11. Dodgy WNS solution P91. The one where you moor between piles and there's a dory in the way. TJ holds the bow against the current using the leverage of a bow line taken clockwise around the pile. Conveniently, to make the plan ("IRTv2.0")work, the pile (on a river, ffs) is drawn as 1m diameter to give him the leverage. We all assumed the pile was a normal 12 incher. Never mind, we've done this to death.
12. On the Sealine SC47, picture back cover, is there no foredeck gear?
Overall the mag seems thinner than a few months ago. I haven't counted pages (and ads v editorial). Is this a new trend? Fewer ads? Buit the content is better. I'll renew subscr at end of year!
