Quick gyro

Is that because the flywheel is precessing as well as spinning when the gyro is actually working? As I understand it on the MC gyro, there is a mechanical braking system which slows the precess process at the end of each stroke; is this the tremor you feel? With my Seakeeper I can hear and feel the hydraulic brake which controls the precess stroke in the same way

Is there enough headroom Hp wise to run it without compromising performance .
What size engines in what are we talking about -- if you don,t mind ?

Spec wise the 5 ton one is half the weight of the 10 ton and half the electric draw. So for trim purposes multiple units is the best idea. Does anyone know if the installed price of the 5 is half the 10?

She is 41 ft plus extended platform, does 38 happily fully loaded so no problem. As well as platform she has every boating addition known to man & has been maintained with no cost spared, new bats, upgraded water strainers, absolutely anything that needs doing gets done, so a bit daft getting bigger & starting again if it will fit on .

I think this must be the reason though I am not well versed in the gyro operation. This whining and slight vibration is acceptable to me. My main concern now is the 200 rpm drop at WOT and changing propellers is expensive. Guess would face the same problem should I use SK instead as the weight difference is only 200 lbs.

IMHO before you spend a load of money changing props might be a good idea to have all the existing sterngear and hull thoroughly cleaned and then re-test to find what your actual loss of speed is. Part of the speed/rpm loss might be due to fouling especially at this end of the season
 
100% agreed.
When I previously suggested to have the current props shortened (if the pitch reduction needed is low enough to allow that) or changed, I assumed that all other factors had already been considered.

Good question. I started talking to a Quick area sales manager called Oyvind Andreas Karlsen who told me he was setting up a sales operation in Hythe but after an exchange of emails he never came back to me after I asked for photos and examples of installations in boats like mine. There was another Quick guy called Andy Sims who was copied in on my emails. Anyway their email addresses are as follows

Not sure why Karlsen was using 2 email addresses

You might start by emailing these guys and asking about UK installations. Hopefully you get a better response than me
 
My experience is the same.

Karlsen was writing to me then nothing.

I chased 4 weeks ago. Got Sims

Karlsen away. Then nothing.

Chased Sims. Karlsen replied Sims away

Their brochure has a Squadron 58 installation with 4 x 5 tonne units ( no where else to fit them so a possible ) but apparently the customer is being difficult and won't speak to anyone. I think we know what that means .....

Shame I am interested , I would like to buy but their service is diabolical. Without reference customers with similar boats and installs I cannot see them selling much.

The s58is I gather in San Remo if anyone is based their and knows the back storey

There's a Fairline dealer there. Quite helpful IIRC. Perhaps he would know the l boat Might be worth dropping him an email or via Miles / Russell.

you could bargain a deal, offering your boat as a demo case,
and loads of exposure on forums,...
than there is multual benefit to make things work.
 
I was told by my local dealer that the Quick sales team was in Australia promoting the gyro at the boat show there. I think they are still at a rather "primitive" stage trying to set up a sales network world wide.
