Question Re Engine Hour Meter?

Can anyone please tell me how to connect up an anologue engine hour gauge? Is it simply a live feed from ignition, or maybe from alternator?

Yes, live feed from ignition. Runs as soon as switch is turned on. At least that's what I have done, very simple and it works fine

Some would argue that 'ignition on' is not 'engine running' but its close enough for me.

Close enough for me too.
But if you wanted to be more exact you could always have the negative connected to the oil pressure switch.

You will find out how to wire an hour counter with a suitable input to the W terminal of the alternator ( if you have one) so that it records just the actual running hours
