Beebok I have emailed Hurricane your contact details, I'd suggest editing your phone numbers out of the post. He might take a day or two to get back to you because he is away in SC at the moment.

Dalmatian coast does sound very enticing, what marina are you in Mike? Prompts a few questions: I expect flights/transfers from UK may be more expensive/difficult. Have you ever taken the boat up to Venice? Are you allowed to take the boat into the lagoon? If so, I expect its expensive to overnight there....
We are based here http://marinafrapa.com/en/home/. The marina is 30mins from Split airport and there are flights from Stansted and Gatwick between April and Oct. There are no direct flights outside this period which is a problem. There are a few other issues with Croatia that I'm happy to talk about but I don't want to hijack this thread so PM me if you're interested in learning more.
We have taken our boat to the northern end of the Adriatic but never actually visited Venice, mainly 'coz I know it quite well having visited the city a few times over the years. Yes you can take your boat into the lagoon and you don't have to pay through the nose to park it at the Cipriani as there are a number of marinas in the lagoon. AFAIK there are 2 small marinas on the island of Venice itself but I'm told it is v difficult to get overnight moorings in them so its probably best to plan on mooring at one of the outlying marinas (as the couple in the AZ did in this month's MBY article) and take a taxi or vaporetto (water bus) into Venice itself.

Thanks for that Mike - I have thought about a change to Croatia but would miss, not going out, out of season. My current berthing agreement ends in October, its exceptionally good value at SCM and a good crowd out there, so its not got past the thinking stage at this time, I would definitely PM you if it develops, thanks.

Well there's a good reason people don't go to Croatia in winter. Whilst summers have similar temperatures and weather to the W Med, the winters are definitely colder so if you enjoy going out of season to the Med hoping to find some balmy winter sun, you probably won't find it in Croatia. Thats not to say they don't have settled winter weather periods in Croatia just that the temperature is likely to be chilly

Beebok If you want the number for the chap wishing to rent out his berth you can obtain it from a post in www.scmchat.com, its a website that is specifically set-up for SC berth holders or those interested. I expect Mike (Hurricane) will PM you shortly, if not, PM me and I can let you have John and Nicky's phone number.

Sorry for the full PM box and for the late reply.

We are in Sant Carles at the moment - just spent a few days of fun in a Spanish snow ski resort only two and a half hours away.
We left the actual ski slopes at 16:00 this afternoon and were having a cool beer on the boat in the marina at 18:30

Weather forecast here looks good for the next few days - we will probably be playing with our new Jetski in the lagoon.
Returning to the UK by ferry on Tuesday after a few days in the Rioja region over this weekend.

Yes, our friends with the berth are still with us and they will give you a call tomorrow (Thursday)

Thanks, Jimmy
Our friends will give him a call tomorrow.

You were correct about the problem with the Youtube clip - it was, in deed, set to Private
I was using an Android Youtube App - much easier to understand now that I'm back on the boat and can use a PROPER PC

Thanks for all your help
Mike

N39 vs your N40.5 and the weather for the next week looks like that:
14thFeb2014.jpg

I don't think you understood the mind shift that comes with med boating. Hacking down from Cambs to Cowes is an extension of a stressful week. Climbing onto a flight means your chill time starts with the first g&t. When you get off your flight you're on holiday. The boating is a bonus. It's the difference between putting on extra woollies and huddling over a cup of tea and stripping off every item of clothing down to what keeps you legal, and opening a chilled beer.
Stop angsting and do it.

......how long would it take us to get to Sant Carlos say from the time you arrive at the air port, including all transfers etc.,
Thanks

I moved out to the Med in 2008 for a similar reason, it took us around 4.5Hrs to get to our boat in Torquay from Milton Keynes. It takes me about the same to get to Sant Carles....!

I expect you would hop down the M11 to Stanstead, say one hour? You would simply take cabin luggage as most of us do so would book-in on-line and arrive say one hour before your flight time. If you fly to Reus that will take you a maximum of two hours to clear the airport, then less that one hour all motorway to get to the marina - all in all say 5 Hours. We have been out around six times a year and have only been delayed twice both ways.

We went out Boxing day and returned in January, we go out again in two weeks time for 10 days. We are able to take the boat out around 75% of the time even in winter. If you get fed-up with flying, you can take the Ferry Portsmouth-Bilbao/Santander, a lot more expensive but I enjoy the 5+ Hr drive the other side, but only say every other year...

For those that have reservations about moving to the Med., other than frequent flights and car hire, it really is just the same as berthing in the UK. Of the five closest boats to me in the marina, four are from the UK! We all keep an eye out and help each other out, there's a very good spirit even amongst the Spanish whom I must say are just as friendly. The main difference, you get to go out in the sun when you want to and not when the weather lets you, when you drop the hook you don't get rocked to death, particularly in Sant Carles with its protected lagoon.

OK - Here's the real view of Med boating.

We have been here in Sant Carles for just over a week.
Woke up this morning - switched on Sky News to see the latest on the UK storms and flooding.
Wow those waves breaking over Chesil Beach were amazing.
Nothing like that out here at the moment.

So we decided that we should pop out to the lagoon to our usual anchorage and play with the new toy (a 215HP Seadoo Jetski)

This is the anchorage - about one and a half miles from Sant Carles Marina.

The only problem we had was that we had forgotten to get some bread to go with fresh prawns for lunch.
Bit of a challenge that - so I simply jumped onto the Jetski and popped back to get some.
A few minutes later I was back on the boat with a nice cold glass of Cava.

We then spent the afternoon playing with the Jetski - I'll post a new thread on this sometime.
It has been a bit of a project - getting everything into the right place etc.

Then it was back to the marina for some more Cava.

Note that these pics were taken today whilst the UK was getting another battering.

Six years ago, SWMBO and I decided to move our boating to the Med after several years in the Solent and UK South Coast.
We definitely won't go back to that - this is what it is all about.
If it wasn't for SWMBO, I would probably leave the UK for good.

'Weather forecast here looks good for the next few days' :)

Heading out tomorrow and will post back some pictures...We are looking forward to it, it has got to be better than here!

We are heading back to the UK on Sunday morning.
Ferry crossing Biscay is booked on Tuesday but we don't know what state the weather will be so we have decided to stop off for a few days in the Rioja region.
If you are here before Sunday midday, pop over and say hello- Jennywren - end of V pontoon.

We are heading back to the UK on Sunday morning..

Mike, can you let me know where my box of bits that you took out for me is? I wanted to use them when out on 27th. Thats another good thing about Sant Carles, with the www.scmchat.com forum created by Mike, we often get people saying when they are going out and offering space on their vehicle, which really helps when you want to take spares out.......
