I have two bolts aft of the centreplate case.. which one is the bolt upon which the plate swivels?

With the keel resting about an inch above hard ground, can I pull the bolt out and replace it without losing the plate's location completely?

Ooops, yes you're right, i've now worked out which is the front of the boat!! Bolts are both in front of the case, but close together.

Does the bolt actually go through a hole in the plate or is it in an angled slot? Can you raise the hull high enough to lay underneath and look up into the centreplate case from the bottom and see which method you've got?
I would not recommend trying to find a hole in the plate once you've taken the bolt out as it's extremely difficult to manoeuvre the plate without a great deal of headroom - you will need to have at least 3ft clearance in order to get enough plate down to hold and be able to lift up and down.
A slot is a different matter but only slightly easier as you can slide the plate horizontally and wait for it to meet the slot wherein it will fall into position (you wish!)

New owner so absolutely no idea if it's a slot or a hole! Hoping another Finesse owner might help here.

I know from how tricky it was lining up a Wayfarer centreboard bolt (well, not that bad, but it takes a while to find the hole) that to do it with a steel plate could be nigh on impossible. Can't lift the boat higher unless I do it with a car jack? So I'm hoping the plate will stay firmly in place when I pull out the bolt... and that I pull out the right one... (Del Boy & the chandalier spring to mind..)
