Any snapdragon owners in the forum ? Need to ask questions regarding your deck hardware setup with particular reference to the mainsheet car.

Please reply if you own a Snapdragon

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I have a snap 23 and have been trying to contact the association for months but no one answers my emails.. maybe you can help here.

My other problem is regarding the car for my mainsheet system. I've owned the boat for about 8 months now and we really love her however.... we can't understand how the previous owner ended up with a rounded stainless steel pipe attached to the back part of the cockpit, with a jubilee clip acting as a car and basically no car trim control at all.

We're pretty sure that somehow a long time ago when this boat was built she had some form of proper car but need some other owners to help us.

Other question would be regarding the genoa lines.. we have a 150% Jeckells genoa on a plastimo roller reefing system and are looking at installing blocks on stand-offs in the passage way on the sides to better align the sheet for the winches.. however once again we'd love to see some photos of other boats in this family to get a better idea before going off to the shops.

Hope you can help

Regards

The Boats. The Association has about 275 members (Nov '99) who between them own Snapdragons, Mirages and Invaders, all originally built by Thames Marine at Canvey Island.

These are the boats which qualify for membership of the Association:
Invader 20, 22
Mirage 16, 2700, 28, 29, 37
Snapdragon 600. 21, 670, 23, 747, 24, 26, 27, 890, 29 .

Technical. A journal is published by the Association bi-annually containing technical information and articles submitted by members. A technical information service is available free to members only, providing reprints of rigging, sail and hull plans for the majority of classes. Every member is presented with a register of subscribing members detailing boat name, sail number, sailing area and telephone number to enable members to get in touch with each other about technical problems. The register is updated twice a year.

Membership The Association has Thames Estuary, Medway and East coast rallies, meetings in early Autumn, and Spring and Summer cruises. Membership extends currently (Nov '99) as far as Australia, Sweden, Canada, and the USA. To become a member a £10 registration fee is charged and the annual subscription is £10 (paid by standing order). For more information please use any of the contacts above.
----------------------------------

The 24 and above have the mainsheet car running on a track across the bridgedeck (in a recess) in front of the companionway. A very basic diagram I have shows a similar arrangement on the 23 although I have not seen one myself - is there any sign of a track having been removed?

Likewise the jibsheet blocks run on tracks on the side-decks to allow adjustment for different size headsails.

In the absence of any other 23 owners responding I can let you have pictures of a 747 which may or may not be of help.

Re: Pictures?

Thanks for your help. I'll defnitely try and contact the assoication again.

No actually the pictures you've sent are good enough but thanks for offering. If you really feel like helping what i'm after is the snapdragon logo since i'll be spraying the boat and changing main sail this winter and woudn't like to loose the dragon!

Can you help?

Thanks once again
Tyrone
