queenborough trot boat

It's not as simple as that, is it. The 'trot boat' is run by volunteers from the club, only at weekends for a start, and then only in 'summer', and then only if there's someone available and willing to do it
Under the new Harbour Trust arrangements the chap who collects mooring fees will fetch and carry if you ask nicely, but that's not in the evenings, obviously.

When we were there in may (so may be different now) there was a very helpful trot boat service that operated weekend evenings. This was free but I was under the impression that the operators was paid by the club or the trust. The day time crew were rather less helpful.

They are advertising for volunteers, for trotboat driving and answering the phones. The HM himself was out driving the trot boat at the wknd. The place just needs a few more users to tip the balance, the reputation for theft of dinghies is unfair, that happens all over the place. One tide to N.Foreland,1.5 tides to Essex, cheap and sheltered, free parking and srubbing grid, train 1/4 mile, egrets plus mega box boats,I am chuffed I got a buoy here,Jerry.

qboro trot boat

we went over at the weekend we used the trot boat to go ashore after being told it only ran to 9-30 one of the boys took his rubber duck to the halftide and we ferried everybody back in that
if you use the trot boat you have to wear a lifejacket or they will not take you
as we came back after 9-30 the pubs were empty and the yacht club was closing so false econamy to stop the boat so early the pubs and club must be suffering financuly

To be fair if you are indulging in the pub and dinghying about in the dark, sticking your life jacket on probably isn't a bad idea!

The trot boat is a welcome service when it's on and you can't be bothered/don't have a dinghy with you and want to get ashore. I can't see how it could possibly be financially viable for it to be run as a business even if you include the £10 for a mooring in it, rather than charging a pound each way or whatever.

If they manage to keep the all tide landing operational, I think those that are involved with the new harbour trust should be very proud of themselves.

Also I've left £2k worth of tender on the all tide and the hard dozens of times without a problem, I agree with jerrytug - an unfair comment on a strategically placed port.

Agreed.

I have been a regular visitor to Queenborough, from before the ATL was built, when the local kids on the slip would "look after" your dinghy for a small fee! Never had any trouble then or since.

Hello again All,
I would like to up-date everyone with Queenborough Harbour.
Between July and August we will be changing the hours of the trot operation. As you all know it is presently running Friday to Monday 08.00 - 10.00 and 16.00 - 22.00. We will be changing the operation during July and August on Saturday and Sundays to run 10.00 - 22.00. Other times will remain in place.
We would like to thank everyone for their positive comments, and we will continue to improve the facilities whenever we can. If when visiting you would like to come up to the look-out and perhaps sign our visitor book you are all very welcome.
Recently some of our mooring holders have started using the free trot boat service to ferry them to their boats instead of getting the dinghy and out boards out. We are hoping this will continue as we see a free trot boat service as a positive point for mooring holders as well as visitors.
I wish you all a very good sailing season, and hope to see you in Queenborough.

I visited for the first time season last weekend, these changes are to be applauded and certainly make the Queenborough a more 'welcoming' place to visit as at times in the past it has felt anything but that.

In the past the mooring fee included one token for the All Tide Landing, it might encourage more people to go ashore if this was reinstated?

Hi,
The ATL is owned by Queenborough Yacht Club and the moorings owned by Queenborough Harbour Trust. It is unlikely that QYC would agree to give tokens out free as the ATL is barely making enough to maintain its self now.
Queenborough Harbour Trust is also trying to increase income to pay for the staff and free trot boat operation, and is not in a position to cover the costs of an ATL token as well.
We would like to hope that as Queenborough Harbour becomes more successful we will be able to improve the services to visiting yachts and mooring holders, but I am sure you understand that we have had to start from scratch due to decades of decline.
