East Coast Sailors,

The yacht club are asking for help to clear up the mess from this weeks arson attack on the trot boat, Sheppey 2 and the all tide itself. 9.00 am 9/10/10 at the landing.

Without getting into the bones of it, this surely is a case of either, use it or lose it/nut up or shut up?

Show of support maybe needed?

Just got back from a couple of days away and read about this. ATL damaged, and club trot boat burned and sunk, I understand (I've not yet managed to speak to a member to get the facts first-hand).
Only 2 weeks ago my club enjoyed an excellent evening at QYC enabled by their voluntary members, their trot-boat and the ATL.
This latest news is just sickening. I know they have been fighting to find funding to keep the ATL going, and to say this is not going to help is an understatement. On the one hand they will be feeling totally p**d off with the whole thing and just wanting to close it and be done with it, on the other hand they will not be wanting to let down the vast majority of people who want to use the ATL.
The folk at QYC, and their true friends in the local community, are a great crowd and deserve all the support that the sailing community can give them.

Any idea what they need help doing? I might be able to muster some hands on Sunday morning, but don't want to turn up and be useless bystanders while those better qualified or useful do all the work (or worse, just be in the way).

I received an email from the cruiser class at Medway Yacht Club tonight explaining what has happened and the intention to meet tomorrow morning and help out.

Sailing plans shelved for what looks like a decent weather weekend, will help in any way I can.

Whoever was in charge of organizing todays mercy mission, would be good if you intend to cancel/not require help anymore, let everybody know?

One of mates from Upnor Sailing Club forwarded me the same email asking for help today, he sent this to all our sailing mates too.

After an hour of hanging about at the ATL and yacht club, I was leaving to go home when I noticed some activity at the club. Nice to see the friendly folk there, who new nothing of the days plans.

Sort yourself out, whoever you are.

Shame

Hadn't heard about this til now - shame to hear it. Anyway - here's a pic of the ATL taken as we went round behind the island yesterday...
