Stopped off there today cos a chum said there was a cafe he hadn't tried and I fancied cake.
First thing I noticed was a sign indicating a chocolate, coffee and cheesecake place next to the microbrewery. Both closed.
Club members on ATL recommended th`e` cafe in the Queen Phillipa hotel. Up the road inland and bear right. Coffee not so good but toast and marmalade good`...no cake.
Ken's cafe close by had poor coffee and no cake but menu looked good value.
So no urban lumberjack beards, fixie bikes or decent coffee yet

I've often wondered why this island paradise an easy commute from London, complete with its sandy (almost) beach isn't the most expensive part of the UK?!

Live there..... and all will be revealed ! :) ...actually there is new Turkish just opened in Halfway, owners have spend some serious money on the place. Have tried to get in several times only to be told no chance, normally on the island this means the health inspectors have been but in this case restuarant is booked solid for weeks.This may tell you something about the quality of other establishments on the island. Good luck to them. It is apparently not cheap, which means the locals will probably not be darkening its doors.

Well, we were there twice in the last week, en route and return from Limehouse. It's certainly on the up compared when I was last there over 20 yrs ago. The ATL is a big improvement and the staff are friendly. The Micro Brewery is good, thankfully no music, wi-fi and phone calls must be taken outside but the beer is good! The first time we were on a mooring but on return we were on the pontoon so could walk ashore. Recommended.
 
I also have not been able to sample these delights in halfway for the same reason.I have heard from others that have that its very good but very expensive.
On the subject of new restaurants on Sheppey, tried the new chinese buffet in the high st. Shame the food does not come close to the quality of the restaurant itself. Not a patch on Spoons.

Because it's at the end of the road to nowhere.
Same for every similar place in the UK, Thanet, Harwich, Dover, Folkestone, Rye, Ipswich, Lowestoft, Redcar. To change it needs for people to start to talk about it and become fashionable. But that simply doesn't happen most of the time. Local councils don't help.
 
That's a good point. Whitstable is a good example. Before one not very special restaurant opened, and appeared in some London magazine, it was pretty similar to Queenborough. (Still is in some ways....)

Think that if the Oyster Company was not in Whitstable them yuppies would not support the town
 
to date have never actually stopped overnight , never had cause, however the main complaint for those who have moored there seems to to be cost. Basically too expensive merely for overnight and a pain to to get back aboard out of hours. As comparison, on recent visit to Conyer paid about £20.00 PN for 11M boat WITH power and water, believe Queenborough are asking £30.00 for bouy alone ? However if they put some visitor pontoon berths in ,as per the Peel NOTAM ,will def be in the market.

A swinging mooring would cost you £17 and on the hammer head it is £22 for a 11m boat. In both these cases you are fully floating and have access at all states of tide. The trot boat runs every day in July and August from 10am until 9.30pm, but in September it has the same hours but only runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For the rest of the winter it runs weekends from 10 till 4. Full details here.

Recently I stayed overnight on the hammerhead for the first time since the mid 1960's when my parents had a mooring there. Yes it is definitely being dragged in to the modern times. However I did find a conversation in the Queenborough Yacht Club slightly strange where members were discussing their driving convictions as if they were merit marks. I think the full transition will take another generation.
