Hello, I have a Hardy Seawings 355 that I have owned for the past 6 months. When mooring up last night the bow thruster failed, motor spinning but no drive. Upon further investigation I have found that this particular thruster has a belt drive. The belt has snapped, but the prop is turning freely. I think the belt has been slipping for a while with the amount of dust that was there. Am I correct in saying this is a boat out of the water job to replace the belt, and how difficult a job is it to do?

I think I have a similar one also with a toothed belt.

It's straightforward, and definitely not a boat out job as you can do all replacing and tensioning in situ.
I guess you've already undone the blue plastic cover, right?
Does it look like this:

if so, just get a belt and a couple of spanners and you'll be ready in 10 mins ;)

cheers

oops sorry, repaired the link to my pic!

Unfortunately yours is completely different and toothed belt disappears in the gearbox which is inside the tunnel or something. Looks odd, mine is all clear, visible and accessible.

Looks like boat out job, thruster gearbox out, belt replaced. Might be a way to pull the belt out and squeeze the new one in there???

cheers

Thanks for getting back to me. I have located some drawings relating to how my bow thruster is assembled, and it looks like the shaft needs withdrawing to enable the belt to be passed around. So yes it is looking like a lift out.
