Yep, but it's the ones that dont that are the problem and the ones that do, must find it fairly boreing just zooming about in the middle of no where. Hence loads of cheap second hand ones for the idiots.

I think that's the nubb of it. People with no experience of the water think they look easy & fun, & when they are cheap on e-bay too, they think they are buying cheap thrills rather than dangerous toys.

Perhaps "think" is the wrong word, not many seem to be able to think much.

Please stop making assumptions and trying to put words into my mouth, i have no issues with any other craft which are used correctly, and a little common sense applied, i have issues with the idiots who seem to be increasing in numbers.

The latest story was reported in the magazine, it occured in Poole and involved a jet ski colliding with a boat, it left the boat stranded on a sand bar and the rider with serious head injuries.

I have noticed a dramatic increase in such activities over the last three years, and this is echoed by a number of other boaters who have also been involved in such incidents or very near misses. The issue is what we do about these idiots to protect ourselves and boats from injury or damage, and what others think should be done about them.

There has been another serious injury incident since that one, also in Poole. Helicopter and hospital job.

Many of the jet skiers I've met out on the water, have been obviously experienced, miles from anywhere, and very friendly. There are all sorts. Pretty much as the ones I've met off the water. Perhaps I mix with the wrong sort of jet skiers?

Miles from anywhere may be the key to your good experience. The ones round here like their antics to be witnessed by as many people as possible so just off a beach, inside the swimming area, crowded anchorages, the harbour entrance are the hunting grounds. HM & Police had their own PWCs and ran shotgun on the Condor fastcat ferries to stop the real dipsticks going through between the hulls.

Which sort of goes to prove the point that a few spoil the image of the rest. We know that happens on here all the time. Just don't tar all of them. Unfair to the majority. Bit like all the complaints of any powered boat by sailing people. Most of us know that is unjustified as well. As is complaining about a small minority of sailing dinghies in races, and so it goes on

Most of the jetskiers I have encountered more than 50m from the shore seem to be out on the water for the thrill of it. That basic desire is shared by those of us with heavier boats doing only 20kts, so I'm not going to put the boot in just because they are helming a jetski.

If they zoom out towards my wake, I'll slow down to 13-14kts, which is max wake speed for an S28. Watching them jump it keeps the 6yr old entertained, and puts a on me too.

I did the same as well in calm conditions (if it was rough, they didn't need it), and received acknowledgements from them for doing it
