What do we think about fender socks.....The new boat has a blue hull (previous have all been white) and I'm wondering if it is advisable to use fender socks on a coloured hull. Thanks in advance

Ha, you will get diametrically opposed views on this one!

I'm firmly in the "always use fender socks" camp, but plenty of people will disagree

if you use them, make sure they dont get salt encrusted, or the socks become like sandpaper. Wash them clean often.
I use them, and I think they definitely help.

Our boat too has a blue hull. For it's first year I didn't use fender socks, and got small scuffs. For the past 2 years I have used them and have had no further scuff marks!! But I do hose the socks over every couple of weeks to stop the salt building up.

Regards,

Paul.

Don't even think about leaving a boat with a dark hull without socks. If your not convinced take a walk around your marina and compare boats with and without.

I use them.
I wash them when I wash the boat (hose them with fresh water)
as soon as I berth I try to hose the hull around the fenders to wash salt away.

I would not use them if I used a lock on a regular basis as mud may cause light scratches.
