Hi Guys
I am in the process of purchasing the above boat with a trailer, unfortunately there are no straps provided to secure the boat to the trailer.
Can any one tell me how many straps are required to make the boat safe and secure to the trailer and where best are they situated.
Secondly, can any one help me with what are the best make of straps to purchase and where can I get them from and roughly how much they will cost.
I would appreciate any help to this simple question. Many thanks

Suggest you check out this site. Can't advise you on your specific application but used to use a couple of 5 tonne ratchet straps to secure a fairly heavy rib and outboard. 5 tonnes is obviously overkill but I preferred to use 50mm rather than 25mm straps. They cost about £15 each for the type with hooks

I have a Beneteau 24 and trail it with four 2 inch straps, one doubled around each winch, one over the bows and one across amidships. I am sure this is over cautious, when I had it delivered it arrived with just two; one on the bow and one across the cockpit.

I would also invest in some strap protectors, little sleeves that cover the straps at the wear points.

Ratchet straps are popular and probably the best option, but rope can be used too.

As well as the one over the front and ones off strong points around the cockpit area I like to add "springs" to stop fore/aft movement, but it's possibly overkill.

Protectors as previously mentioned or bits of carpet over perssure points are a good idea too.

I got my straps from a local garage for about a tenner each. I also got one made from the same stuff without a ratchet, just a loop each end. It's 10m long and I use it to keep my tow vehicle out of the water when launching/recovering, that was 8 quid.

I used to use two straps with my 21.7, I also lashed it to the bow snubber / winch support with the eye inthe bow. Cannot remember where I got the straps from they were about 2 inch if I remember right.

Never had a issue with the boat coming loose

In my view the most important strap or design of your trailer is that which stops the boat moving forward in the event that your car has come to an abrupt halt either by emergency braking or by collision with something solid.

Our boat like yours has a stub keel. Our trailer has a cross member which the front of the stub keel is hard against when the trailer is properly loaded..

You no longer depend upon strapping to prevent the trailer load sliding forward. You just need a pair of good ratchet straps over the top to hold the boat firmly in place.
I have found having a strap off the bow to the trailer causes much more pitching movement to be transmited to the towball .
I get a much more comfy ride without it.
