[QUOTE ( where all the best people sail, don't you know :) ) .[/QUOTE]

Beg to differ...... (probably along with a few others..) :-)

Just had a friend stay over, He built his own boat (in,gasp, ferro)Heavy gaff ketch, launched it by C&N and had to put up with continuous gratuitous insults from the ' People who chamoised the dew off in the morning' Then sailed to Falmouth (OK s.coast) where they admired it, then s/h non stop to the Algarve, sans electrics, auto helm and engine.
Bit drifty, but he tells great stories...

Why don't people like Bavaria yachts? New to the forum, so I don't know. I looked over a couple last week and they seemed pretty good to me.

Think of Bavaria as the yachting equivalent of Tesco Value. Perfectly adequate performance, remarkably low price - and rather disdainful reactions from those who spend more on standard Tesco (Beneteau, Jeanneau) or Tesco Finest (Oyster, Southerly).

Does that make MaGs AldiLidlish?

Do you feel that Bavarias are a threat to the rest of the industry because of their price?
As far as build quality, the structural side is very good they are built to
modern techniques (computerised machines) where layup is exact every time. The one
problem I see with them is their image amongst the sailing fraternity. The Skoda of the sailing world?

Did they have problems in the early days with keels? I've heard it but not sure where this came from, or is this a Myth yet again to smear a competitor? Westerly a supposed quality make did have problems with their bilge keels at one stage splaying out like Bambi's legs in the famous Disney film, are we to place Westerly and Bavaria in the same league??

Mc gregor are a specialised boat neither one or the other I feel, but a very useful caravan/trailer sailer/motor boat. Some of the Mcgregor owners sail in very different locations that us supposed yotties will never reach.

Intriguing analogy - so what would a Waitrose yacht be? Etap?
