I was wandering about, and came across this website for a quick calculation of those pub figures for your boat.

Here is my Jeanneau 35 Lift Keel.......


Sail area to displacement (SAD): 19

Displacement to length: 182

Length to beam: 3.09

Theoretical hull speed: 7.57 knots

Capsize ratio: 1.93

Waterplane area: 252.78 ft2

Ballast to displacement: 35%

Comfort Ratio: 41
 
For my Oceanis 400...


Sail area to displacement (SAD): 23

Displacement to length: 145

Length to beam: 3.04

Theoretical hull speed: 7.96 knots

Capsize ratio: 2.13

Waterplane area: 241.66 ft2

Ballast to displacement: 37%

Comfort Ratio: 35

Not too bad for a 29'er

This is based on a cruising displacement of a little under 11 tons (according to the marina crane). Lightship figure for displacement would be somewhat less!! Still, I can vouch for the Comfort Ratio being good!

Well, it's ver interesting and good but the only figures of any merit are the Comfort Ratio which on our boat is 49 and the Capsize Ratio (1.88)

It puzzles me how the formula can calculate a comfort ratio without at least enquiring as to the galley and wet bar floor areas, but there you go

A capsize ratio under 2 is good according to our transatlantic cousins who apparently know how about these things. Personally, I hope my capsize ratio stays well under 1 and zero would be fine

My mobo has a Comfort Ratio off 100%
The Capsize Ratio is 8 pints of Real Ale and 2 Large measires of Scotch! Hic
And I,ll Race You Anywhere for tenner.
As long as it,s below A Ratio of Force 4 (Beuphort? Beuafort?) Aw, Yer know what I mean! Hic! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'd better check my settings then , mines supposed to be very stable yet according to the capsize ratio I'll be tipped in at the slightest swell /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
 
Oooh, I like this game. Nice find.

Results for our Young Sun 43 are very comfortable and not at all capsizy. It bears out the obvious, that she goes nowhere in light airs but quick and safe in a F5+

We can hold a slice of bread over the stove with a fork, if that's what you mean. Oh, we could put one on the Cobb BBQ - that might count.

Do have spiral staircase which makes comfortable extra seat in saloon. Also v. comfortable pilothouse so skipper can stay dry and tell crew to go out in the rain and look for ships. Saloon berth is also comfortable after much red wine when No1 crew decides aft cabin will not be comfortable with skipper in it too.

Some visiting crew have been known to wear comfortable shoes...
