Re: windex

Yup agreed. It's still a toy of course, you're merely saying it is a useful toy.

They're actually good value too, about £200 for the raymarine one incl the whizzer thing and the screen. I'm about to order one when measured up

Begining to feel a little inadequate with all this talk of electronic gizzmo's costing more than my boat.
Still I dare say i'll get over it...../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: windex

Yup they are the two. Both in the £200ish ball park I think. I prefer the second one but dashboard space is tight (it's about 4.5inch sq) so I might get the first one (only 2.5 inch high)

The second one, along with all the ST60 range, looks better if you add the Low Profile Flush Mount kit. Praps get princess to do this (for your a/pilot) too?

<<Have I missed anything?>>

Well not strictly electronic but have you considered jacking the radar scanner up plinth/metal tube/whatever?

Although I'm a Princess fan and I'm now not worried about low scanners frying my one neurone or two eyes (see various previous posts on radiation) I do think these low swept back radar arches are stupid. Some folks might like the look of them but for me it's just plain daft not to jack the radar up higher. The range is limited by the height much more than the power of most of them.

In my book, if it don't work right it cain't look right.

Re: windex

ST60 Windata is more than twice the price of the ST40 ($860 v $355 US RRP). Don't think I've got room for one anyway, at least not on the space allocated for instruments.

I've considered it but it's not required. Radar array is actually quite high and is fitted ontop of a stainless stand.

G4 domes will sit almost flush on radar arch using Scanstrut SC45 mounts. Shipwright will build angled bases on rader arch for these to be fitted to. Net result will look like domes are fitted snugly to arch. A G6 system would require a taller radar array stand.

Re: windex and dvd

Agree with you on windmeter. Had one on a previous boat and it was jolly useful to see not just instantaneous speed and direction but trend over a few hours. As you say, also useful for docking

Re: windex

yup the st60 wind is £426 in the cactus catalog, sorry got that worng

I see princess already use flushmount kits for the st60 instruments. good stuff

What's the third st60 gauge for ? One is autopilot, one is tridata, then it looks like another tridata. So why not ditch the second tridata and install st60 wind? You dont need 2 tridatas

Also why not have a second 10.4 inch screen to the far right then reorg everthing around it. Will be a squeeze but looks possible. The engine start stops can go to the far away panel, either side of the tachos. The seafire can go where that boat's bow thruster is, so the VHF can go to port of the sterring wheel, hence 10.4 inch screen on starboard side??

You are right to have the b/thruster by the throttles, you need this for stern to berhting. I fear you wont actually need the s/thruster!

And ask then to fit a raymarine seatalk 3 pin plug under the dash (or can diy fit later - piece of cake, 20 mins and £20). This will allow the remote a/p plug in

Excellent on 2 counts

1:- You had considered it
2:- Princess, at least, are listening to common sense.

Agree with later poster - one sexy radar arch

Re: windex

3 ST60 guages are - speed, depth and autopilot.

I've tried to squeeze a second 10.4" screen on, but it messes up the position of something important. If you're anygood with Macromedia Fireworks I'll send you the .png and you are welcome to have a go /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

what engines you havin?
i would recomend you have the engine displays
cat, volvo ,man mtu all do them abt 2 to 3k for them
you will get all the data on one screen which is sure better than squinting at analogue gauges
just my 2 cents

Re: windex

If you upgrade to the ST 80 range and use a masetrview you can have dedicated depth, speed and any other data including nav /wind / envoriment on the master view and all you need to fit in addition are the senders or antenas. Used the St80 range on my last boat and will definitly have them on my next.
Wind data is a defininite for me

But tis perfickly ok to have speed and depth on the same tridata unit, then that gives you the space for wind unit. They look perfickly ok on tridata, and anyway you'll have speed and depth available in databoxes on the furuno.
product_st60_tridata_display.jpg

Have never used fireworks but sure I'd be rubbish at it!

Anyway, on reflection I think Bigmoose is right. Get the lectronic dispalys and the smaller Furuno if necessary to make them fit. You gotta remeber, you will NEVER use the lower helm in SofF, so fit em upstairs if possible. I often look at our lower helm, nice creamy leather electric recaros, £000s of raymarine colour screen and gauges, all that stuff, and totally wasted. The only switch I use there is the holding tank emptier!. You gotta have these lower helms I know, but dont put a load of nice electronics there in preference to the upstairs. all imho :)

What it needs is an extra instrument pod just in front of the wheel, aft of the 3 ST60 guages. A kind of toblerone bar block stuck on top, using the same principle as the below (and note the 'gine room TV). Then you could fit some extra stuff

Got Tridata on current Magnum and it works fine.

Don't totally agree about lower helm useage even accepting I'm a med virgin. Planning routes? Looking at chart stuff at night? Hit heavy rain and loose visibility?
