Yep ... they had one and sadly stopped production. It makes me proud to be able to be one of a few that own such and be able to fly. The Last burgees of course presented to us as the band who held things together in the days when the forums were hacked .... PBOMeet group ...

Many thanks to IPC for them and also that we were able to assist in those days ... (long before this version of forums appeared !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

You can see my avatar - but here it is in all it's glory ..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

doesn't it mean something rude in RuBBiaN if you read it from the other side ?

[/ QUOTE ]

PBO ..... OBP .... which would be pronounced O V R ( the R in rolling form of course ! ) It has no meaning whatso-ever sadly !! If you reverse it - then it has no "bukhver" ( letter other than the O ).

Pity !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, you learn something new every day. I never heard of it.

It must have got shot down by the mighty mouse, which covers all the forums and has been around for about ten years. Besides, the mouse is owned by the members and nowt to do with IPC. So superior in every way. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just a thought, does your boat wear a Blue Ensign also ?????
/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Certainly not !! Blue Ensigns - now that is being 'elitist' !! The PBO burgee was given to a group of use back when the original forums were hacked and shut down. The PBOMeet group was formed and people invited to keep in touch via it while Kim and the IPC guys got things sorted. We had a meet in the Solent and IPC were kind enough to pass to us the last remaining burgees they had.
Obviously we asked if they had plans to continue the burgee and make more and at that time they said no. As far as I could make out - each of the mags had their own burgee and these were last left over. Probably qualify as a collectors piece now !!

So there you are - proud to fly it not so much for elitist reasons but as a thankyou for IPC presenting us with it.

I have nothing against the Mouse and Champers glass except It's not design I would choose....

IPC presented them to us in 2000 I think it was, and in fact if PBO mags are checked - one of them has an article on our group and the 2nd meeting we had, (first had weather and various problems and wasn't featured).

As far as I know - IPC decided not to continue production of the burgees - each mag had their own. Maybe Kim or someone from IPC can tell the reason ?
Why did we choose name PBOMeet ? probably because in those very early days of the forums we'd enjoyed so much before hackers struck - the different forums really did have distinct different threads, instead of the mix now. It was also to be clear what it's intention was - to keep PBO forumites in contact. OK the numbers didn't take of as expected as Kim and the boys managed to bring the forums back in a new form quicker. It was a shame though that so much material was lost from the old.

It's funny - because I was never aware of the 'pissed mouse' until later ... so your comment of not knowing of IPC's own burgee's is strangely humorous !

We have an even better "pissed mouse" now, check out forbsies avatar, but only on a cap.
But I proudly wear the YBW forums mouse on my vessel. Lots of folk have recognised it and come over for a chat/drink, so seems to fulfil its purpose, which is to make us recognisable in "real" life.

Why do people feel the need to jump up and defend the p'd mouse ?

Me - I was looking at my collection of burgees, checking for what is still serviceable, what will need replacement and thought I'd post giving me opportunity to relate an old tale ... nothing more.
I don't need a "mouse" on a flag ... my choice. It's funny actually that I've organised a few forum meets over the years and never seen a "mouse" flown at any. Wow and we managed to still get together !! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Neil,

"DE GUSTIBUS ET COLIRIBUS NON EST DISPUTANDUM" (showing off the benefits of a classical education /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif )

Just as the YBW forum burgee has it fans, the tipsy mouse/pissed rat also has it's detractors.
Stating you don't like it hardly qualifies as blasphemy. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Fly one, or not... whatever floats your boat.

Personally, I find it a bit too 'blue blazer & pink gin', borderline gay. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Standing by for the inevitable flak /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Because its 'ours'.... and knocking it is unkind to the many who fly them, and especially to Haydn who has supplied them at considerable personal effort to many over the last 10 years....

[/ QUOTE ]

What are you on ? Magic Mushrooms or something ? Have I said anything against Haydn ? Have I mentioned that I was doing flags myself for PBO Meets at own cost FOC to people who attended ?

As you are now reading from another - there are actually those who do not agree with the Mouse burgee, in fact most people I know personally on these fora (and that's actually quite a number) do not agree with it or fly it. But until your post was not going to mention it. See what you've done now ?

So let me say this then - in response to this OTT comment thrown at me ... I consider the Mouse Burgee suitable for a short bowstaff on a Mobo - but not for a mast crosstree. The design is not one that I consider "mine" as in being part of the OURS on Forum. Others may and that I have no problem with.

I fly and others fly what they want to ... I choose to fly the PBO flag as I feel more aligned to PBO than the other mags, it is also their official design.

Nigel,

You fail to understand the difference between 'statement' and 'implication'.

Personally, it wouldn't have been my choice of design either, but I fly it regardless, as it is the forum burgee.

Whay is that you feel you have to defend by attacking ? Do you object to my PBO flag ?

Maybe best you don't answer !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
