I was wondering if such a beast exists before I make one. I need a tool to hold my 30mm shaft central in the stern tube whilst I adjust the engine mounts. I was planning to drill out a tapered wooden plug.

On my 1 inch shaft I use a short length of 25mm bore polythene hose with a split down one side. Slip it over the shaft (no need to remove gearbox coupling) and slide it down into the stern tube. The outside diameter of the hose just happens to fit nicely in the tube. Job done. Am sure you could do similar with 30 mm shaft.

Slim chance but:
I found that my 1" propshaft was the exact fit on the inside of a roll of vinyl electrical tape. Then unrolled the tape to suit the exact i/d of the stern tube.
I kept the gadget in my boatbox and have used it a couple of times since.
