I've got one. Works well albeit mine is a bit small for the boat that I have. No great problem with gas consumption. Quiet. No chance of diesel smells wafting into the boat. Gas heating is inherently less safe than diesel, despite the safety cut outs.

Diesel will be cheaper to run, but you're going to have to use the heater a lot to make up for the purchase cost difference. And in my experience, the time I use heating the most is in a marina when I put on the fan heater anyway.

I would buy another.

I had a 1600 heatsource unit - it worked fine but was underpowered, I upgraded it for their new heater just launched they call it 2800 - although it only gives out 2.5kw - this is much better - better heat, better flow of air. I have three outlets on a 28 ft aft-cabin Colvic Motor Cruiser. Unfortunately, it has had to go back today because mine was one of the first models they sold and they have now done an upgrade. The safety requirements are so stringent that the machine was too intolerant to any changes in gas pressure and electricty voltage supply - so they have had to make it slightly less tolerant. I agree with the other poster that these units are designed with safety in mind and should not be any concern as ,ong as they are fitted properly (Gas pipes etc), they are room-sealed and they have been developed with the Boat Safety Certificate in mind. I find mine is not expensive to run and is reasonably quiet in operation - much quieter than my neighbours Eberspacher. The chap at Propex - Roger, is really helpful and I have found them to understand their product and boats too. I recommend it.

we got one albeit underused, (fishing boat) but when called upon it lights up first time and and soon takes the chill off the wheelhouse, never been looked at as far as I can recall.

Mine has worked very well (faultlessly, in fact!) for the last 5 seasons. It's only the 1600 and it only just keeps a 27 footer tolerably warm but it's quiet and very reliable. If you can convert to propane rather than butane, it would be better (just use a different pressure regulator I think). Butane tends to freeze when used in cold weather!
