Grey overcast.
8C.
Stiff Easterly.
White tops on wavelets.
All the yotsstill firmly ashore .
Halyards tinking away in the distance.
Fuel tanks brimmed on the MoBo.
Just a normal Bank Hol.
.........and double glazing keeping it all at bay ..................Whats not to like. ?

Good morning you cantankerous old fogey. Here in the Welsh Med it's perfect. Glass seas, blue skies and not an Englishman in sight. All seen through wide open double glazed patio doors as I weep into my cup of coffee. On the upside I have never heard the forest come to life quite like it is at the moment. Every little bird singing it's little heart out looking for a mate with the onset of spring. Maybe I've been too busy to hear it in the past.

Anyway. Hate to see a fellow curmudgeon bereft of anything to berate. So here is something you can sink those gums into. Cursed outdrives.

I'm wondering now that I have loads of time on my hands if I should split one down to see exactly how they work, how to shim them and check for backlash and generally get to clear the mystery and black magic that makes them both feared by the ignorant and admired by those in the know. What say you?

If you could find a way of restoring or, even better, avoiding what would appear to be inherent problems you would be hailed as a public benefactor.

Well if he pulls the legs to bits , god help him , was it last year he fitted 5 trim rams at £400 each before he got that right , and there is only one pipe and 2 bolts. Sounds like coastal rides are going to get rich.

Ya but they are the best damn trim tab rams ever. And I now have two repaired spare to do the next drive. That's forward planning and thinking for you ? Coastal Rides? Only once. Never, ever, ever for mechanicals again. Pay half price now, twice more in six months.

The other three days of the bank holiday weekend were okay, if not quite pleasant , weather here - apart from a sharp shower yesterday afternoon. I fact this afternoon was okay for a nice walk down bu the river and past the marina .
A long weekend of boating certainly missed.

Bad luck I will tell you bad luck moving our boat to wales , then being stalked by a man with legs to pull bits.

Do you remember way back, when I was still green and only taken my boat out once before onto a glass sea? You said you'd guide me to some beer and natter at Caernarfon? And you took me out wind over tide in a howling F6 gusting god only knows what else? You know that time it was so rough your newbie guests fell off your flybridge all the way down into the lower cockpit? The same ones that got ratarsed at the shindig and took a taxi home never to speak to you again? Yeah? It was then that I knew a lifetime of taking the mickey out of you would never recompense me the terror of that day, though beer helps. So if I pull your leg you know its so you can wake sufficiently to crack open another one for me

let sleeping dogs lie ......you will find out soon enough what demonic but fragile cogs and wheels lurk within........ most probably the day immediately after the Lockdown is cancelled and a Heatwave is forecast. :):):)

Got an outdrive ? always worth keeping a few minor essentials around,, a complete spare transom assembly for instance .
You would have thought somebody would have designed disposable outdrives by now .....sorry just realised that was the original idea. ?

? My legs run circles around your shafts. Anyway, hang in there, I'm compiling a 2019 review out of boredom to bore you lot with and you will have plenty opportunity to point out how my outdrives are superior. There's even a photo of you giving me a right hook in the pub for riding donuts around you on the trip back from Cemaes.

Your boat , whats it called ,Amandaaa never goes more than 1/2 mile off shore , so are coming to Ireland as soon you are back in. That’s if your legs are working , there is a great guy named Dave who knows all about legs , he lives a a boat .

Really miss that aroma of hydraulic oil as it leaks out of the rams/hoses/ pump and gently rises in little globules to the surface of the water and leaving those pretty delicate rainbows on the surface. The smell of money always follows.
After a while you get quite good as to if its gearbox oil or hydraulic oil by the the smell.
:):):).
