Hi all

I managed to lose my prop last week which of course sucks but now need to get a new one. The issue I am having is I wrote down the size and pitch of it but forgot to write down the rotation. Is there a way in the water I can work out the rotation of the old prop? Had boat 2 years so still very much a novice! Live and learn!

Shaft or sterndrive?
Twin or single installation?

If shaft you'd normally be able to see the shaft or gearbox flange in the bilge:

Standard rotation is RH for sterndrives and outboards, but you are right in checking 'cause you never know..
On twin installations propellers normally counter rotate to eliminate steering torque - unless with Duo props as they doesn't create the torque.

If you have pic of the prop you can actually see the direction when looking at the blade shape (this is RH):

Imagine water being pushed backwards to move the boat forward.

RH then - if it's standard. If it is the original drive fitted it's bound to be.

If you can get the drive serial no. a dealer might be able to look it up.

Guess the only way to confirm is run it at idle, forward gear engaged and watch the prop shaft.
