After a great week messing about with the boat, on Friday while heading for Newtown Creek we heard a very loud bang. SWMBO looked astern and she said she saw a redish brown thingy in the water. still managed to get 30knts so wasnt to worried.

AT NTC checked port prop and sure enough some damage. but as she was coming out Monday though would change them then.

Today the boat was lifted and went to see the damage on the duoprops- Remeber that I have never seen a damaged prop before, the guys at the yard asked what I had hit a Container? I thought if I had what a bloody stupid place to leave it, I can try to get them repaierd but need to know where to take them? The guys at the yard said they wont be able to be repaired, but I think I want a saecond opinion.

I thought and told SWMBO it was only a lobby pot? but can one of those things do so much damage, On the front part one blade is no 50% shorter, on the rear prop three blades look like jaws had a snack?

Answers on a postcard please....

PS. It didnt stop the great fun and water fight in Newtown Creek, Stinkies, Raggies and three floating baths- well tenders that had more water than the creek in them, Pictures to be supplied soon, Arcadia Birtday water fight could become a regular thing... On the other hand any excuse for a water fight at NC were up for...

Some one will give you the number for Steel Developments and maybe a few others. You should have them back in a few days, good as new. Mind you if you spend as much time deliberating about it as.............?

Ask Long John to remind me to look at the ones I have down the cellar. I could even flog them to you if you like.

Had much worse than that repaired by Steel Developments.

They looked as good as new when they had finished.

<hr width=100% size=1>We don't want a sports cruiser, totally impractical. Err ok then.

How about these for 14 month old props.....

Cauliflowered.....

A touch of galvanic corrosion.....

That's what happens:
a) when you let your wife drive whilst you go for a slash
b) when crappy Volvo use water based paint instead of oil based paint

Not a lot that Steel Developments could do. Even Harry Potter would be hard pushed to restore them.

Mind you VP sold me two new pairs for £300 after some hard bargaining.

Petem - all that pitting is not from hitting stuff, looks like galvanic corrosion?

Steel developments can mend nearly anything however, I'm surprised they couldn't do these, but I spect it was the pitting and the not the edge dents that prevent them fixing these?

None of them props are unrepairable. Even the corroded ones. To be truthful, they are pretty tame compared to my prop at the end of a season bashing around the shallows of poole. SD say that as long as there is a third of a blade left it can be repaired. I took in a prop that was basically a hub with 3 stubbs left where the blades used to be. They repaired it. Hit a tree trunk just below Wandsworth Bridge. Stopped took off the prop. got the bus to SD's place, gave'em the prop and went to the pub for five hours, hard life!. Then went back to SD's picked up the prop and got the bus back to the boat. Fitted it and carried on. Thats what I call service!

Correct John, if you look above the second picture I typed 'Galvanic Corrosion'. I suspect it was a combination of poor painting / bonding when refitted. There was a third prop which had much less severe pitting and Steel Developments sent it back as written off. The damaged one with the tear was also beyond repair. I reckon we snagged a mooring chain. Limping home the vibration was terrible!

Prior to running aground trying to get two new sets under warranty. Trashing them the weekend before they were being inspected forced the issue a little!

Still sat in the garage...

Vibrated like b*ggery at the time, though.
