Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craftwork

I now see there has been some posting.
I think you have it well sorted. A good lathe able to turn the sizes you will need will be the best Friend you will have, mine has been the best investment I made.

Re: Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craft work

Quite agree , the main thing I'm going to need is time , money , and contacts like you to help in whatever way you can . I do have quite an extensive toolkit , and now I know what type of plane etc. was being suggested , if I haven;t got them or know someone with them , I will have to buy as needed . Bit confused on the welding side though . That's father in laws dept , with mig , tig , gas etc . , just can't see why they would be needed . please tell

Re: Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craft work

Then you can post all your pics and we will all be happy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif As to the lathe thing ive just got myself a wood lathe for fun but io also have the LEGACY ! now thats a tool ! web page

Re: Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craft work

Yes lots to do,you will have to learn the names of all the parts so we know what your talking about, futtocks, knees buttocks etc,Good Luck if I was in uk I would give you a hand!

Re: Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craft work

Now that's making me a happy bunny, does that mean I don't need to buy one /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
P.S. Too late to edit apparently , I'll allow time for any objections, have loads of pics , good and bad

Re: Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craft work

Don't worry Mogy, I'm sure you'll be in the UK at some stage during the rebuild, this is not a six week project

Re: Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craft work

Time will really tell.
I have fabricated brackets, engine mounting, exhaust, control components etc in SS and mild steel. The last bit was a gas bottle container in SS the next is fuel tank and water tanks.
One item was a new trolley the old one sagged old 9x4 RSJ new 12x12 column. but I some how don't think you will need one for "Persevere".

Re: Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craft work

Believe it or not, although originally twin masted , she was later fitted with an off centre stern tube and engine , the tube is still there but I think the prop has long gone , so I suppose metal comes in more than I thought , they had a wierd way of fitting the stern tube though

Re: Project Persevere 82 Ft of wooden craft work

I think a dedicated section for posting photos and work on rebuilds and restoration projects my be an idea.
All would know that there will lots photos to download and be a good source of reference for any one working on a project. At the moment any post or photos of a restoration project soon gets lost, ie the wonderful report of "Victorious" lost amid all of the posts.

No deck shot available at the moment , but I think the vote is going for no more pics on here at the moment, anyone object strongly to pics please post so I know , but I am curious , where , when etc , historical value maybe ?

I just want to add that with such a project which may well take ages to compleate, that you write down on paper whats agreed as far as towing dry dock cranes and what third parties agree to do, Including costs and how long you can stay.
Ive seen much smaller boats with managable rot in the transom held to ransome by someone that promised a lot then simply handed over a huge bill which if not paid ment the new transome which hadent been made wouldent be!And all the time the charges for the place were mounting. That was in Port Cogolin Ive no idea what happend as i went off to Toulon

When its writen you know where you stand!!

know what you mean, we're having a meeting with the owners of the boatyard next time we go down to see her, he does want a sizeable surety for the dry dock time, but is there anywhere else I could take her ? anyone ?

You need a flat level berth else the barge will twist, you could have her on the slip ti sort out the bottom then into a mud berth, constantly on the slip unless being worked on full tilt is expensive, imhoThere are Barge association where they mayor should kow where there are places to dry ou a barge for top side repairs.
