This is my absolute last post on here , and any other forum , because as a result of the ridicule and trivial respones I've had on here, Anthony has decided that the agreement we had is cancelled. Anthony now still owns Persevere and intends feeding her to the fire , because the agreement we had was that all other vessels and the waters of Conyer Creek would be insured against Persevere sinking. The purchase price was waived, and I could have saved her, except for one thing. The help ? from this forum led him to believe that I wanted to move her without this insurance, and the fact that he got upset about the trespass remark from me . I have had loads of PM's and e.mails from people that seem to despise what I tried to do. Even some suggesting it was a spoof thread (I wish, cost me about £150 in fuel alone)
So as Kieth is aware , I am bowing out of this forum , but for those that know me , I'm still watching ,
Take care those that are friends (almost poetic)
And for those that aren't,
Dave i'm sorry to hear that. unfortunally without a man with vision and perseverance boats like "persevere" will continue to be lost, and in years to come our children will only have our distant memories of what might have been.
unfortunally i am in the wrong country to have offered physical help.
all i can add to your comments are AT LEAST YOU TRIED
Well Dave, in the end I suppose its your decision to exit the forum, which is a pity because like most of us who have something to say or contribute, we have those that like us and those that dislike us.
You have enough friends on here to pop in and say hello to. I might even come and hound you up river in Fambridge this year!
If Persevere is definitely not going to happen, its a real blow, but as has been said hereabouts, most of us admire the effort and vision of your project.
Best of luck whatever you do.
Dave. If she is in such a bad state it sounds you would have been rebuilding 99% of any way, if the project is a viable complete rebuild would it not be possible to have her cut up so you have all the major bits intact say sliced into 4 or more sections and transported by road, a new keel would be your starting point in a yard of your choice using the salvaged parts as templates and patterns and do a new rebuild some may be reusable. I know it is not the same as what was done to Victorious but it looks like she was almost completely rebuilt.
Just as I have done with my 30ft Gaff cuter at the end of the day her keel, main floors and some planking are all thats left of 1905 everything else has been re-newed.
Don't just give up if there any possibility of a way to do it.
Good luck David.
Well, it was a really tough one to take on and no shame in pulling out when the difficulties became apparent. Mogy's advice about cooling-off period was good.
It'll be a pity to see the old girl go, but not an ounce of responsibility for her passing is yours - I know you've put your all into trying to save the vessel.
So dust yourself off, recharge the batteries, straighten the back and pull the belly in and I look forward to seeing you back on the forums in your old guise - the place won't be the same without you.

Here, Here, Stout Fellow.
stick around Dave /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Oh, thats dissapointing.... I was just about to start making suggestions.... and drive down with landrover full of boyancy bags.. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif such a shame..
If she's still available, im looking for a new business base.... A floating (eventually!) one that is!
I'm sneaking back in because I took one hell of a mental kicking over this . Anthony , if you are still watching and haven't destroyed her , I'm in big time kaka with Louise and although you are not going to let me have her , at least contact the Thames Sail Barge Trust , you will be destroying over 100 years of heritage , and from what I can see of recent posts , there is support out there
Thanks guys, I'm only able to post occasionaly now , and usually when I can't see to spell
Sorry
Dave
I had hoped that retiring from the forum , then semi retiring , would have changed Anthonys mind . That seems not to be the case . I have sent messages asking for a change of heart , but I have yet to get a reply . So I'm sorry folks , somebody with no sense of humour , regarding the posts , has just come in to the world of boating . I tried , and failed , maybe someone will have better luck . On a personal note , I apologise to anyone that I may have snapped at during this attempt , and Anthony , you're a prat . Happy boating .
As you've now come back on this......Despite the disappointment I can't help but think that you've had a narrow escape and are well out of it. In time you will probably look back on it and be glad the way it turned out.
I seem to have missed a lot? I couldent look in to see how work was progressing,Now i could but only quickly as my laptop battery is at 30% i hoped to get an idea of progress where the barge now was and find joyful posts looking for parts wood and other materials and "how to do--"whatever
I cant read way back but do i understand this projects canceled?Even if thats so i hope you Trevera25 wont leave the forum, afterall when you find a new project we will still be hear to help if we can!
And besides i and many others were looking forward for the day we can "just happen to be near by" and come aboard for a bier!!
Love is no substitute for hard cash and she sounded like a moneypit to me. You did your best. Leve "Anthony" to it. There are other boats out there worthy of your attention.
Thanks guys , your support may be called for again in the future , but for now we'll get the plastic sorted and watch for another , your support is very much appreciated , and thanks also to the DBA , and many others
Good luck to you mate! people like you are the backbone of the classic sailing/boating community. It takes a lot of guts and vision to take on a project as large as this one. Good on yer!
Er , don't know what happened here /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif but this thread is over a year old /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif and quite a few on here think I'm anything but the type of person you describe Colin , but thanks anyway , I try to keep quiet about projects these days
