Problems #1 DECK LEAK.(right above my bunk aft cabin)
The original deck teak planks have been overlayed with ? and resin and several layers of non slip deck paint.Should I expose the area and (maybe) open a can of worms to find wet rot and worse.or should just overlay again to the toe rail and stop the leak and let the area dry out?
#2 Engine..
I have twin diesels Ford (tractor type) port ok stbd "old Smokey" coupled to these are Parsons gearboxes circa1963..if? I was to replace stbd engine are any modern engines compatable with the parsons G/box?
#3 Sailing
The current Rig is Ketch The jib,the sheets come back to to two pulleys on the wheelhouse and then made up to deck cleats should I fit a track to the deck tween sail and wheelhouse? or other?
Mizzen
the sail is controlled by a sheet and jamming cleat and a small track on the sternpost (any suggestions)or is this ok?
Main
controlled by block and pulley via a small pulley attached to mizzen mast the made up to deck cleat any improvments? also should I add a kicking strap to support a rather long boom . Thks guys & Gals

Hi,
I'm new to the forums and am just starting to convert a 50' MFV.
My first and most important problem is that my deck leaks, so through the forum, am getting all the info I need.
I've used a power plane to get through 3mm of deck pains which has revealed some beautiful pitch pine decks (only about 2 square foot for now).
The next step is to re-caulk the deck, hook out the bitumen and put new bitumen in.
Like you, I wondered whether to mend isolated leaks or do the whole lot.
I came to the conclusion that re-caulking is time intensive, but I would be so gutted to do one area, then have another leaking next year, so i've decided to do the lot.
I'd be more than happy to share my experiences with you over the next couple of months and forward pictures of the procedures and details of what works well and what doesn't.
Sorry I can't help with the other 2 problems, although regarding your sail set-up, I have the same problem too.
Good luck with seeking more advice.
Neil.

Couple of months?

I think your 'couple of months' is being rather optomistic.

I am not trying to put you off but I would add a time multiplier of between 3 and 6 and a cost multiplier of between 2 and 4.

It would be nice for you if I was wrong but with renovation work I think you will keep turning up additional cans of worms

Best of luck

Iain
