Problems with the Dutch and Red Diesel

agree.

GC1 was his own worst enemy

A very nice chap who is also a a very enthusiastic boat owner. A pity that a number of people were not able to ignore his stupid posts, and thus allow the rest of us to enjoy the others.

Medskipper,

Come to Belgium, there's a transition period till end 2007 allowing Red Diesel. Almost as beautiful as Holland (no opern waters though, mostly canals). You can enter in Oostende or Zeebrugge.

We'd be glad to accept your hard earned cash in return for much better beer as well ! How about that ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers,

Well I'm up for it. Beer as well. And at least some of my red will legitimately be used for heating, and SWMBO get very cold, bless her thermal socks:-)

[/ QUOTE ] Jeeezzz! I'm not going to kick off the Happy1/Grumpy1/GC1 saga again but criticising the majority for not being able to tolerate one idiots excesses is more than a bit ripe. Its not that he didn't have multiple chances.
Quietus non movere.

Well put.

It was my understanding that GC1 did actively seek a speedy resolution to this uncertainty and was at least partially responsible for getting this sorted so quickly..

I am restrained from saying more and expect that GC1 may request this to be deleted soon.

Maybe he should be sent to Iraq

[/ QUOTE ] Pretty sure he's been there, actually. He posted some photos of a helicopter ride over scenic downtown Basra (or was it Baghdad?) some time back.

Not sorted yet, though I am given to understand that all parties are now convinced of the necessity of having a means of making toast readily to hand at all times. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Belgiums really a wonderful country indeed great food good Belgium Bier and French wine (but good wine)Even the people are really friendly and the towns and villages wonderful to visit or even have lunch/dinner not to costly and mostly very gooood

I would agree with just about all of that. but except perhaps around Brugges, Gent or the coastal ports, they don't really cater for leisure boaters do they? Well, not in the same sense as France, Holland or the UK do. I speak from experience but did enjoy the Brussels Yacht Club, once we had got there via Antwerp.

Pheran,

Don't know what went wrong when you were in Ghent, Bruges or Ostend. I live in Ghent, have visited many times the marinas around Ghent, have been more than once in Bruges too. I believe there was even a visit by MBM guys couple of weeks ago, they were quite positive. Please give me opportunity to rectify your post /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Where would you recommend in Brugs, bearing in mind it needs to be staggering distance at most from a decent bar with a good range of lambics.

Visit the Coupures moorings just off the park by the windmill.

There is a bridge across entrance that looks like two rows of oil drums that rotates and lifts the bridge up. Its very central and 6 euros a night with electricity.

When are you going?

Agree with Coupures (small) marine. There's a second one close to the railway station and anyhow, Bruges is fairly small so never more than 10' away. Ghent ... there's one in the centre of town, at couple of minutes from the grand place.

Let me know when you're coming ...

[/ QUOTE ] Errr.....nothing. Think you must have mis-read my post. I said EXCEPT Brugges, Gent and the coastal ports. I have had some wonderful times with the boat in all those places. I wouldn't bother with the rest of Belgium, by boat that is. No offence, just lack of facilities.

As a victim of the purge by the Netherlands customs I would really appreciate a hard copy of this letter as part of my appeal against the €770 fine that they levied.
I'll p m you my mail address and fax number if that is OK?

Have sent you a direct email - thanks on this.

Just have to get the official letter from the customs so that I can appeal and get the money back. But not overly optimistic in dealings with officaldom
