Didn't work for me and with new version the depth display became very intermittent.
Problems with Navionics APP on iPad2 and AIS?

Not sure about the depth presentation, but I am still getting the crash.
Even with "display AIS targets" turned off, so it's purely to do with the reception and storage of the AIS data, not the presentation of it.
The worrying thing is that since it doesn't seem to be possible to prevent the app from connecting to the AIS source if it is linked on WiFi, my only resort is to disconnect from WiFi, which means I cannot use the Vesper AIS app on the ipad.
So I'm asking for my money back from Navionics.
I cannot use their new app.

I’m wondering if it’s the lack of processor speed and older iOS, just tried it on my wife’s iPad 2 and it runs very much slower than my iPad Pro, it’s also wont download much map data for offline use. Not able to test AIS as at home but suspect it might struggle. Her iPad runs on IOS 9 as this was the last update issued for this processor, don’t forget that Apple have updated the entire operation of the IPAD with each major update, version 12 is very different to all others with multi tasking apps as just one update

I'm well aware that performance will be lower, thanks to general Apple iOS bloat. Navionics is pretty much the only thing I run on it. No issues with map downloads.
I'm involved in a software industry, and support for "obsolete" hardware and OS is always a vexed topic, with plenty of opportunities for a vendor to make themselves unpopular by dropping support for older hardware.
But they claim support for iOS 9.0 and above with the new app, so it is supposed to work on an iPad 2.
Even if the performance is low, it shouldn't crash.
I'd settle for being able to turn off the AIS feed, if that stopped it crashing.
Or "back-grade" to the old app (I may be able to do this myself via the Apple Store, but I'll want my money back on the new app).
Or ... they can buy me an iPad Pro, waterproof case and binnacle mount. I'm not an unreasonable person...

The new update fixes the crashes when AIS is received but targets still "pop-up" on the screen very brielfy, the moment an AIS sentence is received and then disappear again.

Didn’t mean to offend, however there does not seem to be a general issue being reported widely.
I also work in control software related employment and when a software update or similar is reported that is not proving common often the cause is hardware related.
It would be interesting to see how they respond to the money back response.

It seems pretty clear that there's an iOS9-related problem based on the feedback to this and the other post.
Regarding your last question: so far they have carefully avoided my requests for a refund, which was embedded in the bug reports. I will probably have to get a bit more explicit.

I'm a newbie to the forum so apologies if this has been answered.
I too use Navionics appon an iPad 2 (9.3.5) for nav - for many years.
Installed a wireless AIS successfully but app is crashing regularly,
Also crashing on iPad mini 4 (13.1.2)
Massively frustrating after tedious installation...
Has anyone received help on this from Navionics??

I think the problem is with the older iPad processor struggling with the extra stuff being added. So not really a problem that Navionics can solve with removing options and later functions.
I’ve never had any issue with newer iPads and iPhones and always stable as a rock. Not sure why you had an issue with the later iPad, never had this on my wife’s iPad mini

Thanks for the reply. I followed the advice on the Navionics site - closed running apps, updated the Navionics software and it seems stable now. Fingers crossed.

Is that on your newer mini or on the old iPad 2? I'm just about to get a refund from Navionics for the update and revert to my old version, so on the offchance that they might finally have fixed it, I'd be interested to know.

Just to wrap this up - I have reverted to the old Navionics app, and Garmin/Navionics have refunded my update subscription.
I just needed to send them the AppleStore receipt.
Disappointing that the new app works poorly on my ipad 2, but they have at least been quite ethical about the refund.

Navionics seem to have recently changed the licence so that the subscription bought for Ipad will now also work with the same navionics account on android. Just tried on my android phone and ais works great so this points the fault towards old ipad hardware not being able to cope.
