Problems with a Honda Generator

I have a petrol single cylinder generator ,When it running it goes phut phut and blows flames through the exhaust any ideas please

Check the clearances may be too tight or jammed open.

I've never done any work on my Honda .... but a dirty float needle valve or sticking float could be flooding the carb leading to very rich running.

Turn off the fuel or empty the tank manually and see it running improves as the fuel starts to run out.

Burnt exhaust valve.
