Problem with ZF electronic engine controls

But theses signs and symptoms that Mikes been getting point to something else, deeper not the control heads.
I can't see why.
Aside from the fact that all the electronic throttles faults I ever heard of, bar none, were related to specific station(s), there's another factor to consider:
In Deleted User configuration, the e/r control boxes are actually pretty simple, because both the engines and the g/boxes are electronically driven, so there's no need for any actuators to convert from electrical signals to mechanical cables (as it happens with your boat, IIRC).

It’s at this point I would be reaching out for a pen ( key board theses days ) and writing a letter of referral to a colleague, if you were a patient of mine .:) .

My short answer has to be I don't know.
That said, yes, other than building a thermally insulated box to put above each external station (which believe it or not, is something I've seen done by the owner of a F590!), and keep it enclosed whenever not in use, I think what you are suggesting is all you can do.
And I see that in the meantime Swift28 experience confirms that, btw.
Though I believe that the station he has on his Azi is a much simpler version, compared to yours.
Yup, Swift28's controls are a different design to mine. As you know I pay somebody to look after my boat and I suspect she is a bit slow to put on the covers when we leave and I also suspect that her cleaners are not particularly careful about where they spray water so its possible that the flybridge and cockpit control units get a regular soaking. Probably I need to issue some firm instructions about keeping the units dry

I often watch the girl who cleans the boat behind mine. She seems to spend the entire time trying to clean the thing with her phone wedged in between her head and her shoulder. Mopping and hosing seems to be a one handed task so heaven knows how much stray spray ends up on sensitive components. I imagine Mike's girl adopts the same technique!

Whilst I would like to fantasise about my boat being lovingly tended by bikini clad bimbos, I have to say that my cleaners are blokes but supposedly experienced cleaners. In fairness they do a good job of keeping the boat clean but it is possible they are a bit zealous with the hose around the ZF controls

The job is yours P
LOL, you know what? Both myself and S are getting used to look after friends' boats.
We were onboard BA till a few days ago, and now on our old lady in CF.
As the old saying goes, a bad day of boating is better than the best day at work!

Though I must specify that by "look after" I don't actually mean clean the thing rigorously.
Checking that she stays afloat and enjoy her is more like it! :giggle:

Treat her to a headset with mic, and pretend that using the phone as she does damages her brain - which might well be true, for all we know...
At 5 quid or so, that's bound to be one of the cheapest win-win gifts!

Hello,
For what its worth (literally!), I have a complete set of ZF dual station controls, less cables, that look like the 2nd and 3rd photos. They were working perfectly on the Cummins QSB engines on my 2006 Azimut 43 when removed in 2017 because being analoge, they would not work with a new Cummins joystick. I left them with the engineers to store and sell, but no doubt they have other priorities. Its interesting that one of the control heads is virtually new because one side failed in port, and hey presto! it was the flybridge set! I was told not to try cleaning such a critical part.

Hi driver0606 if you mean the photos in this post

Problem with ZF electronic engine controls

then they are not the same as my existing ones

Have you tried advertising them in the For Sale section of this forum?

Hello,
The photos were from the earlier post. I only seem to have a photo of one of my control heads, which look the same. Probably the best way to check is to speak with ZF giving my boat details, and yours.
I am a bit busy (and lazy) to advertise them, but its a good idea.
