Problem with powerboat wash.

Ah! not what you thought!!!!

While I am waiting for various V***o parts to turn up, I have been giving boat a good compound and polish. The bits I have done look brilliant, now the problem is, whenever I wash the boat I end up with all streaks & smears all over it, I have tried car type wash & wax, plain water, car shampoo, boat wash you name it I've tried it, still leaves streaks.
Is there a foolproof product I can use that will leave it sparkling? Or is there anything I can add to the rinse water?

BTW fibrglass gelcoat.

if cleaning the boat leaves streaks and spots, you have shammy after washing. Or, you have to buy a no-spot device to filter the mains of calcium which costs several hundred quid, or of course use distilled water, which may cost even more. Well worth it , I'd say...

Chamois the ultimate answer as TCM says. Alternatively a large towel will do the trick. Time consuming though.

I use Autoglym "car shampoo" (take two bottles into the carwash!!?) on car and boat to good effect. Doesn't seem to streak, although spots a bit if you look close.

Final remedy, stand further back!

b) more drinking,
c) waiting until september when the eveings are darker,
d) sitting in the boat rather than walking round it
e) visit a scrapyard like Gosport or suchlike where cor - look - this boat actually works! And not covered in 2 years of birdshit!
f) avoiding boat shows where there are utterly shiny boats
g) drinking even more
h) considering that, look, the car is a right mess compared with this, innit?
i) finally finally ....take boat to busy med, with stern-to mooring, where you can only see and clean the back bit anyway, tee hee.

I claim complete expertise in all the above.

If you are that sad, you could try those waxy sticks that fit in the handle of the car-wash brush on the end of the hose for the final rinse ( God, how often do you rinse it?) - always gave me a spot-free car.
Gave it up when I became convinced that thieves only stole shiny cars, they think they must be well serviced etc.

Tell colin to stop cleaning immediately and retire to the Square Rigger. Also, the boat will be far worth more if the gelcoat/varnish is untouched or damaged by those fools who (tsk tsk) attack it week after week with power washers, chemicals and hose pipes. Look here at this bit -or anywhere...see, never touched - that's totally original!

Its called patina.. bit like old furniture, clean it off and you ruin the thing!
