Probably discussed before but - Single Prop Petrol or Twin diesel?

Yes cashbuyer I'm still alittle confused how you charge up batteries without shore power!

And bumperdump not another option I'll check them out aswell. Thanks

You shouldn't really need to, but the answer is "you take them off, put them in the boot and charge them at home"

Wouldn't fancy doing that! Better to have a portable battery charger and just connect it to shore power outlet by an extension lead if needed. That way a 240v circuit in the boat isn't required. But if the boat is used enough and has a good alternator/booster he may never need to use a mains charger.

Forget Microwaves. They're bad enough at home, when you're boating you should aim to either prepare food with the bare essentials, or hit the local eating establishments!

Despite having a fairly substantial 32' Cruiser, and regularly Wining and Dining guests, we only have 12V (Other than the 500W Genny for long term mooring battery charging)

A Hob, Oven and Hot water is just fine...oh, and Heating for extended cruising into the cold seasons!

Ok guys I think I've got it now! My berth will have
A power supply, so I need a lead with shore power plug
One end and regular 3 pin socket the other just laying in the cockpit
Say and then just plug a 'halfords' say charger into that.

Sorry if sounding alittle dumb but just looking into getting a boat
And doing abit of research.

OK, let me help.

There is no perfect boat, it's about you, your choices and your requirements.

For example: I have a Wife and two small Dogs, like a lot of partying whilst on cruises, both upriver and tidal, and spend up to 2 weeks on the boat a few times a year. I like an upper helm, so outside, or at least open, but want to be sheltered in poor weather. I must have a double bed, open sun lounging area, and prefer Shaft drives with twin Diesels.

Therefore, my boat is the closest match...

Tell us more about you and your wishes, and you'll get a lot closer to your ideal boat than you can currently realise... :encouragement:

Ok NR
I would want to do day trips with myself and wife with
Three teenagers and a dog. 3hrs out and back with good pub
Lunch in between with bank side dog walks.

a few times a year long weekends 3/4 days myself and wife + dog
Up Oxford way staying bank side on route.

So I'm thinking a 25ft ish petrol boat would be ok
With heater and shower and good batteries.

What do you think?

3 teenagers and a dog! Going to need a bigger boat, you might manage the odd night but that will be it.

Sorry Chris I think you miss read....three teenagers would only be on
Sunny day trips not sleeping over.

Only sleepovers would be two adults and dog.

A 25ft birchwood or freeman could accommodate 5 in the cockpit/cabin surely?

Ok everyone that's great advise..... I think I'm homing in on what I want.

My next question though might really annoy some of you....hope not obviously.

My wife is not as keen as me on getting a boat on the Thames because...

You don't need a 240v mains installed though!! A shore power extension lead connected to your charger would suffice, as opposed to a '240v system' being installed...sigh...LOL

I see. But we couldn't run the toaster, kettle, nespresso coffee machine, hair drier, two heated towel rails, bilge heaters, mains tv and aerial, two convector heaters, table lamps x 3, vacuum cleaner all at once :)
