Has anybody laid there own or is paying for one. I just wondered how it works in practice. Can you really just dink your own mooring, you must own the land surely. They are much cheaper through the Consevancy which is my motivation. I would like an A3 mooring for next year (are you allowed to sub let them?).

No you cannot just lay your own .. its all controlled by the Conservancy and if you do "own " your own mooring you have to pay a ground rent to the Conservancy as well as maintaining the mooring
The chances of being allowed to lay a new private mooring are probably zero but you may be able to buy one from someone who no longer needs it .... A rare opportunity I'd think.

Thanks for the clarity, I miss read the Conservancy mooring type guide thinking I needed a £500 C3 but actually need a £1500 A3 mooring. OOPS! I believe in being totally open and honest in a marriage based on trust BUT somethings are best not spoken about..Ahem! I wonder how long my boat would last at anchor for, perhaps I could find squatting rights or be the first to convert a long keel into a bilge keel or even trailer sail a long keel.

You are not permitted to leave at boat unattended at anchor in Chichester Harbour

From the conservancy website:

When at anchor vessels must display a black ball during the day and an anchor light at night. Anchoring is prohibited in or near mooring areas or in the vicinity of navigation and racing marks. Vessels are not to anchor in the centre of channels and are to exhibit a black ball or white light. Vessels are not to be left unmanned at anchor for periods of more than four hours​
 
Private mooring are sometimes offered for sale. Also people quite often offer theirs for sale for the season. Last time I looked there were some on the Bosham SC website. Alternatively Dell Quay.
 
I would like to try the Bosham channel for a change, it will be great for the kids especially and I have sourced a proper trailer so I can make the winter storage saving by keeping it at home... I have until next spring to save up!

Launching an inflatable tender from Bosham somewhere has to be worked out, I would rather row but it could be a long way against tide and wind. The conservancy provide free tenders also apparently for short use. I lust after a Torqueedo outboard!!
